Por Carlos Gasca > Quequi.- The PAN political party leader in Isla Mujeres, Edwin Magana Castro, released a statement through social media urging the Mayor to fulfill obligations to pay workers whose jobs end Sept. 29th due to the change of administration. He said workers are urged to resort to legal actions to defend their rights as workers, which is consistent with the principles of the PAN party. He said they are not offering legal assistance, but are expressing moral solidarity with the city workers.

Restaurants downtown that are having temporarily closures during this lowest season are Angelo's, Faynes, Bistro Francais, Los Fueguitos, Olivia's, and Asia Caribe. Some are using the opportunity for maintenance or remodeling projects. Some will be open in October, and other will be closed until November.
There are some businesses that are closed during the week, and only open on the weekends. The leader of CANACO said the island would benefit from more promotion, and has an over supply of restaurants, hotels, golf cart rental agencies, and water tourism providers. He said the Department of Urban Development should prevent saturation by businesses that are similar to each other when issuing permits.

From the Huffington Post this week in an article titled "The Mind-Blowing Fact About Immigration No One Mentions"
Americans now make up more than three-quarters of Mexico’s roughly one million documented foreigners, up from around two-thirds in 2000, leading to a historic milestone: more Americans have been added to the population of Mexico over the past few years than Mexicans have been added to the population of the United States, according to government data in both nations.
