    Optimismo ante mensaje de Borge

    0 11 de septiembre de 2013

Por Carlos Gasca > Quequi The Governor gave a televised message of goodwill, and said he seeks to establish a dialogue with the teachers, while respecting their need for job security and seniority. He said he is hoping to get the teachers back to school quickly, without disrupting their rights, so the children of the state can obtain an quality education. He guaranteed that public schools will not be privatized and that infrastructure will be improved. He plans to implement measures to protect teachers from losing their jobs with the education reform.

Strike Committee calls for direct dialogue

Comité de Lucha exige convocatoria directa a diálogoComité de Lucha exige convocatoria directa a diálogo

    0 11 de septiembre de 2013

    Por Carlos Gasca > Quequi.
Despite threats of rain, teachers, parents, and students marched in la Gloria expressing dissatisfaction with the new educational reform. The Strike Committee (El Comité de lucha) hopes a dialogue can be established with the Governor, as was suggested on TV, and they await a direct invitation from the Governor, to find a possible solution to the problem. In Isla Mujeres there are only two  primary schools and one middle school, all private, in operation. The public schools, including the preschools, remain closed.

    Bloquean volqueteros relleno sanitario intermunicipal

The director of SIRESOL, WIlberth Esquivel, confirmed that dump trucks are blocking the access to the inter-municipal landfill in mainland Isla Mujeres. This is said to be because their company, Contenedores y Más, (Containers & More) are owed 20 million pesos, according to the radio program Turquesa. The money is owed by SIRESOL, and Esquivel said he will begin talks with the goal of ending the blockade, which could exacerbate the problem of garbage collection in Cancun. (That is also where trash from the island is taken.)

The power went out for a half hour around 8:30 am yesterday, reportedly due to a problem at the electrical substation at Punta Sam. This delayed some people getting to work and cause some annoyance. The morning downpour caused some flooding, and the Civil Protection personnel were clearing the drains of litter that was blocking them. The downpour only lasted two hours, but the tropical disturbance off the coast of Q Roo is expected to cause intermittent showers, and gusts of wind, so precautions are advised, particularly to boaters.
