Dump trucks blocking the intermunicipal landfill (on the mainland)
-
Bloquean volqueteros relleno sanitario intermunicipal
The director of SIRESOL, WIlberth Esquivel, confirmed that dump trucks are blocking the access to the inter-municipal landfill in mainland Isla Mujeres. This is said to be because their company, Contenedores y Más, (Containers & More) are owed 20 million pesos, according to the radio program Turquesa. The money is owed by SIRESOL, and Esquivel said he will begin talks with the goal of ending the blockade, which could exacerbate the problem of garbage collection in Cancun. (That is also where trash from the island is taken.) -

The power went out for a half hour around 8:30 am yesterday, reportedly due to a problem at the electrical substation at Punta Sam. This delayed some people getting to work and cause some annoyance. The morning downpour caused some flooding, and the Civil Protection personnel were clearing the drains of litter that was blocking them. The downpour only lasted two hours, but the tropical disturbance off the coast of Q Roo is expected to cause intermittent showers, and gusts of wind, so precautions are advised, particularly to boaters.
