Como medida de seguridad ante remanentes del fenómeno meteorológico “Ingrid”
Manuel VALDEZ
ISLA MUJERES, 17 de septiembre.- The port remains closed since Saturday to vessels under forty feet and tours are not allowed to Isla Contoy, fishing, or areas like the whale sharks, whose season officially concluded on Sept 17. They allowed tourism activities in the area of the bay and Laguna Makax, but restricted activities near Manchones. During last week navigation by small vessels was also restricted due to weather, until it was lifted for some hours on Saturday. Officials are monitoring another area of weather with a 30 percent chance of developing into a hurricane.

ISLA MUJERES, 17 de septiembre.- .The whale shark tour licensees said that although the season was ended a week early by the weather, there was an economic benefit of about 20 million pesos since it began on May 15th. They made around 55 trips (como mínimo por concesionario),, representing 163,000 pesos per trip ("como mínimo"), taking 10 people aboard. (como límite). (? The fees per person were in the vicinity of 1000-1500 pesos) Money must be reserved for renewal of permits, maintenance of vessels, and in some cases, wages of seamen as they retain their staff. The season ended officially on Sept 17, and a Mass to give thanks will be held at the whale shark statue on Sept 18 at 7pm on Rueda Medina, and the community is invited.

Now some students are absent because of the inclement weather

ISLA MUJERES, 17 de septiembre.-
Absenteeism of five percent was reported from three primary schools due
to the weather. Only the primary school "Andres Quintana Roo" reported fifty percent
absenteeism, and others said they did not learn in time about the
return to school. Classes did not resume at the primary school "Enrique
Oxte Star" on the mainland area of Isla Mujeres, and on the island four kindergartens did not reopen, whose teachers continued the strike.
The middle school and high school resumed normal activities and will
continue, under the new orders from their union leaders/ (That headline says "Now there are no students in the classrooms Due to inclement weather")

More than 300 City employees losing their jobs
Fin a seis años de disfrutar sin trabajar
Martes, 17 de Septiembre de 2013 22:51
Más de 300 aviadores dirán adiós a sus beneficios
Manuel VALDEZ
ISLA MUJERES, 17 de septiembre.- .More than 300 City employees, representing an expense of more than eight million pesos a month, may be affected with the change of administration. This is the end of six years of government under the PAN political party, including the previous mayor Alicia Ricalde Magana, and the current mayor Hugo Sanchez Montalvo. The PAN government will end on Sept 29, with a deficit of about 14 million pesos. (It is my understanding that the higher levels of government, like the directors and City Council members will be replaced by PRI members, but that the average workers will probably have jobs under the new administration. There may be cuts or adjustments in response to the economic problems.)

Bureaucrats sing "Las Golondrinas"Gobierno
Burócratas cantan ‘Las Golondrinas’
0 17 de septiembre de 2013
Por Carlos Gasca/Quequi .-
Los Golondrinas means "The Swallows" and refers to a Mexican song that since 1862 has been used to say goodbye, to someone who
dies, or to someone who leaves
for another place. It was written by Mexican doctor and composer Narciso Serradell Sevilla
(1843-1910) while he was exiled in France. The song became emblematic
for exiled Mexicans during the Second French Intervention in Mexico
(also known as the Franco-Mexican war). It is extremely popular today
and has been covered and interpreted by many artists over the years,
including Plácido Domingo, Nat King Cole, and Elvis Presley ("She Wears
My Ring"). In the Headline edition from this morning, there are a couple music videos.

HERE is a good article from this week's Yucatan Living Newsletter with some Isla History...About the start of the regattas that have been coming here for decades, before the "birth of Cancun".
and HERE are some Cancun photos from 1970 when it was 'born'. Isla Mujeres was founded in 1850.
Victor's Cuban restaurant is near the south end of Juarez, by the Naval base. Nice seating on the malecon, overlooking the Caribbean...or inside on a day like today. We've enjoyed his cooking, staff, drinks, and ambiance! Always an excellent choice. Casa Havana Cafe Paladar

. Isla was cleaning up after Gilberto twenty five years ago. We're keeping an eye on this one & are likely to get more rain & wind. Hopefully if it strengthens, it won't follow Ingrid's path. From NOAA
1. SATELLITE IMAGES AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS FROM MEXICO INDICATE THAT THE BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IS CENTERED NEAR THE WEST COAST OF THE YUCATAN PENINSULA. THIS SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO MOVE OVER THE BAY OF CAMPECHE AND THE SOUTHWESTERN GULF OF MEXICO DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS...WHERE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE CONDUCIVE FOR THE FORMATION OF A TROPICAL DEPRESSION. THIS SYSTEM HAS A HIGH CHANCE...70 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS AND A HIGH CHANCE...80 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 5 DAYS. AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THE SYSTEM LATER TODAY...IF NECESSARY. REGARDLESS OF DEVELOPMENT... THIS DISTURBANCE WILL LIKELY SPREAD HEAVY RAINS OVER PORTIONS OF EASTERN MEXICO AND COULD CAUSE LIFE-THREATENING FLOODS AND MUDSLIDES OVER AREAS ALREADY IMPACTED BY TORRENTIAL RAINS DURING THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS. FIVE-DAY FORMATION PROBABILITIES ARE EXPERIMENTAL IN 2013.

Here is my Spanish lesson for today.
It is a favorite song of mine, so I looked up the lyrics in Spanish & English.
I put my own, literal, translation next to the Spanish lyrics.
Quizas, Quizas, Quizas
Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps
Siempre que te pregunto Whenever I ask you
Que' cuándo cómo y dónde What? When? How? & Where?
Tú siempre me respondes You always tell me...
Quizás, quizás, quizás, Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps. ("Whatever...".)
Así pasan los días This is how the days pass
Y yo voy desesperando & I'm getting desperate
Y tú, tú, contestando & you, you...answering...
Quizás, quizás, quizás, Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.
Estás perdiendo el tiempo You are wasting time
Pensando, pensando Thinking, thinking
Por lo que tu más quieras What do you want most?
Hasta cuando, hasta cuando Until when, until when?
Así pasan los días This is how the days pass..etc
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You won't admit you love me
And so how am I ever to know?
You always tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
A million times I've asked you
And then I ask you over again
You only answer
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
If you can't make your mind up
We'll never get started
And I don't wanna wind up
Being parted, broken-hearted
So if you really love me
Say yes, but if you don't dear, confess
And please don't tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
Two Versions In Spanish.... The first one has a more interesting video & I like its song better, but the second one has the Spanish lyrics to read as you listen. After the lyrics version, YouTube offers Martin Zarzar's slower interpretation with a lovely flamenco guitar, or you can go directly to it HERE.
