ISLA MUJERES, 10 de septiembre.- The title of the poem could translate as Beginning Without End(ing), or Start without finish...or perhaps Endless beginning. There were four competitors at this third annual contest, which took place around 1pm at the Mundaca Hacienda. Jesus Contreras Gomez was one point shy of first place with his
presentation of his poem, "The Dark Eyed Seminarian" (El Seminarista de
los Ojos Negros) Third place was taken by a middle school teacher Juan Antonio Pech Sonda, who recited a poen he wrote expressing his love for his wife. .The oldest contestant was sixty eight year old Manuel Magaña Burgos,

Ante denuncia de permisionarios del tiburón ballena
When interviewed, PROFEPA representative Ludivina Menchaca Castellanos, agreed that there have been complaints from the whale shark tour licensees about unlicensed boats and she said they have been given proper follow up. She said it is a priority that the big fish are not disturbed and that inspections have been carried out in response to the complaints. She commented that every year there is the problem of large vessels taking the shortest route who are sometimes unaware of the whale sharks. She added there have been a number of vessels fined.

Feliz regreso a casa

Por Carlos Gasca/Quequi The dolphin that was rescued a month ago at the beaches of the Cancun Hotel Zone was returned to the sea today, after an excellent recovery, thanks to the care of the veterinarians of Dolphin Discovery. The animal had a very inflamed liver, as well as parasites, and during the second week she had a gastric infection which was successfully treated. Veterinarian Roberto Sanchez said she responded very favorably to treatment, and now it is an excellent time to release her. When asked about her future, the vet said there are three possibilities. The first is she could return to the Tortugranja, and the second is she could join a group, which should not be difficult since she is a female. The third possibility is unlikely which is that she would return to 'beach herself'' on a beach. She was transported upon a vessel to about two nautical miles, then released, shorlty after 8am, which involved about 15 people. She spontaneously swam out to sea. -

Fishermen are repairing their nets while the weather is not good for fishing. The reporter interviewed fisherman Gustavo Bacab Garrindo who said that a new net can cost 3000 pesos. He said he uses his net daily to catch canane, el mero and el abadejo, among others. He said lobster production has fallen fifty percent. (?) In the case of the the cooperative Caribe, they collected 2.9 tons of lobster in July (of which 895 kilos were tail and 2125 were live lobster); which is an increase from the 1836 kilos (~1.8 tonnes)they caught at the same time last season. In August they collected 2.35 tonnes (of which 641 kilos were tails and 1.39 tonnes were alive), while at the same time last season they got 2.5 tonnes.
