Befriended a tourist and stole from him
Se hizo amigo del turista y le robó

Gasca-Quequi.- Officers of the State Judicial Police are investigating a robbery in a downtown hotel that occurred yesterday (Thursday) morning when a man of unknown nationality entered the hotel, posing as a friend of the victim. According to the Judicial police, tourist Yuichi Sunayama filed a complaint stating he had befriended a man on the beach, and had told him where he was staying and his room number. Police commander Arturo Medina Parra said, "All indications are that the alleged thief posed as a friend of the tourist and asked for the room keys from the hotel clerk, then stole his possessions.". He explained that they are working on this complaint and may be able to identify the thief in the next few hours, thanks to the security cameras.
The alleged thief had been seen at the hotel with the tourist, therefore suspicions were not raised, but no one imagined he was entering the room to take a TV owned by the hotel and the tourist's suitcase which contained his camera, clothes, and belongings.

There will be downsizing as part of the handover process which began on Monday, which will be completed on the 29th of September. This is one of the measures taken by the Mayor to improve the efficiency of the government and to leave everything in order, with clean financial records, to allow the next administration to continue the provision of public services. The mayor said directors who do not cooperate with their responsibilities about finances will answer to the laws. He said personnel will be dismissed who are not working to move public services forward, and there is no room for idleness or laziness. He explained that this is not a threat or political revenge, and that it is necessary to leave with a well functioning administration with qualified, capable personnel and agencies that are functioning efficiently.

Additionally there are 120,000 visitors annually who come for the whale shark tours in the northern area of Isla Mujeres, from the area of Isla Holbox. Tourists enjoying the beaches of Isla Mujeres included visitors from the states of Hidalgo and Oaxaca, and more tourists are expected to arrive in upcoming days.

José Ríos Chalé, the municipal director of ZOFEMAT, the Federal Maritime Zone agency, made a report to the City Council, explaining the financial statements for March, April, and May which indicated good financial progress with the collection of fees for the use of federal zone concessions in the municipality. He explained that these funds are earmarked for beach maintenance and for cleaning, which is done daily and which continues to present a good image of the beaches of the island. He recalled that officials were discharged immediately and will no longer work for the agency after it was discovered that they were involved in irregular activities involving federal zone concessions. Por Esto points out its role in providing information about Edy de Jesús Gordillo Bermúdez, and Jeobanny Ismael Guirao Ancona, whom it says were involved in deals involving federal zone concessions, particularly in Makax lagoon.

It is currently the season for swimming with the whale sharks, and turtles are mating offshore & nesting on the eastern beaches. The mating is visible by day, especially off Punta Sur, the South Point. The nesting happens in the wee hours, and there are Tortugranja personnel, volunteers, and Naval staff monitoring the beaches to prevent people from disrupting them, and to gather and transport the eggs for incubation.
By far, most of the turtles nesting in Isla Mujeres are Green turtles (called Blancas in Spanish), and the second most common are the huge Loggerheads, and there are some Hawksbills. The Green turtles take ~60 days to hatch and the hatchlings are released by the public at events at dusk on Media Luna or Guadalupana beaches. The releases will begin in a couple weeks & be held periodically until early October.
Lately the water has been very calm and there have been many manta rays, with many swimming upside down, in addition to many whale sharks. Offshore from MVC, we have been seeing dolphins & turtles from the balcony, and lotsa big fish while snorkeling.
There are small red crabs that migrate to & from the sea in July, watch out for them at night on the coastal road at the southeastern part of the isle.
Lobster season began July 1 and continues until the end of February.
