Most of the City Council members did not attend a meeting on Tuesday because the advance notification procedure did not take place and they were unaware of the content of the program for the government changeover. The meeting between the Mayor and the Mayor elect that was to follow on Wednesday was cancelled. The meeting of Council members has been rescheduled for Thursday at 10am. Councilman Julio Osorio said the lack of attendance was not an attempt to pressure the mayor regarding payment of salary bonuses, and was due to the lack of notification and lack of awareness about content.

Aguakan assurances: Operating at 100%
-
The manager of Aguakan denied that there is any problem or that there is work going on in the hydraulic system that is reducing pressure in the pipes of customers in Isla Mujeres. He said they are operating at 100 percent, and providing assistance this holiday season by having water pumping at each one of the strategic points of the isle.
"We have personally reviewed this, and the water is flowing with good pressure. If there are some cases where it is not reaching the second or third story, then this is some other, individual problem." He extended an invitation to each of the users to report their problem so they can verify the complaint, because otherwise it will be impossible to determine the cause.
The local office manager emphasized that service is guaranteed throughout the island and more so now during the holiday season. Regarding the amount of pressure currently in the pipes, he said there is more than a kilogram of pressure and to increase it could damage pipes.Turismo

Golf Cart Runs Wild

Foreign tourists Jason and Ross Schneid were uninjured when they lost control of their golf cart and ran into a parked truck yesterday. The accident occurred around 2:30 pm when they were on the main street of Rueda Medina, in front of the Naval base. There was minor damage to both the cart, which was #18 from GoMar, and the red Dakota truck.. The tourists were frightened, so witnesses called Red Cross paramedics, who arrived immediately. The foreigners were unhurt. Staff from the rental shop arrived, as well as the police, who reviewed everyone's documentation and moved the vehicles to the impound yard while responsibilities and settlements between the victims are being determined. When you rent a golf cart with insurance, that insurance is generally for liability, so therefore addresses damages caused to other parties, and not damages to your cart.

The president of the Chamber of Commerce, Juan Carrillo says with the summer holidays, the number of tourists arriving in Isla Mujeres has increased by 30 percent. He said those benefiting the most are the souvenir shops and boaters. He said the restaurants don't benefit when people are on all inclusive packages. He commented about the economic benefits of bus tours, which are characterized by having patrons who bring their whole families. He said they usually travel for 5 to 7 days, visiting different locations such as Chichen Itza, Playa del Carmen, Bacalar, and Isla Mujeres.

It is currently the season for swimming with the whale sharks, and turtles are mating offshore & nesting on the eastern beaches. The mating is visible by day, especially off Punta Sur, the South Point. The nesting happens in the wee hours, and there are Tortugranja personnel, volunteers, and Naval staff monitoring the beaches to prevent people from disrupting them, and to gather and transport the eggs for incubation.
By far, most of the turtles nesting in Isla Mujeres are Green turtles (called Blancas in Spanish), and the second most common are the huge Loggerheads, and there are some Hawksbills. The Green turtles take ~60 days to hatch and the hatchlings are released by the public at events at dusk on Media Luna or Guadalupana beaches. The releases usually start around the end of July & are held periodically until early October.
Lately the water has been very calm and there have been many manta rays, with many swimming upside down, in addition to many whale sharks. Offshore from MVC, we have been seeing dolphins & turtles from the balcony, and lotsa big fish while snorkeling.
There are small red crabs that migrate to & from the sea in July, watch out for them at night on the coastal road at the southeastern part of the isle.
Lobster season began July 1 and continues until the end of February.
The Super full moon will be rising over the Caribbean at ~6:30 on Sunday and about an hour later nightly link

Susan BienvenuIsla Mujeres Scholarship GroupHola
a todos. I just posted a picture of Fabi, who is attending high school
here in Isla mujeres. One of her sponsors had to stop this year and we
are needing a sponsor for Fabi's high school costs for the year. We
need someone who can contribute $25.00/month for the year, preferably in
one payment of $300.00.her older sister, Sugely, just graduated from college after going through the scholarship program. Fabiola is a wonderful person and student. Her family is very special
and have become part of my family after the seven years that we have
been involved. Knowing them and being part of their lives has been one
of the greatest gifts that we have known and makes our trips to Isla
even more meaningful and special. If anyone is interested, please email me at Santafesuzy2@gmail.com.
