This junk removal campaign began on Monday, June 16 and is expected to conclude Friday, June 27  after having gone through all the neighborhoods of the island, including Sac Bajo. The campaign is going house to house to remove any junk that may represent a potential mosquito breeding site.
After eight days of work, it is estimated that they have removed 30 tonnes of junk. On some days they have two vehicles and others they have three, which affects how many tonnes they remove. They expect to remove about 40 tonnes of trash and junk by the end of the campaign on Friday, after they visit the remaining neighborhoods of Ampliación de La Gloria, la Meteorológico and La Guadalupana, and a section of Punta Sur.

    0 25 de June de 2014

Por Carlos Gasca> Quequi .- La empres Ultramar renovó su equipo de seguridad y donó el que estaba en  buen estado.
Yesterday the ferry company Ultramar donated over 2000 life jackets to fishermen of various cooperatives including those of Isla Mujeres, Puerto Juarez, and Chacmuchuc. The life jackets are virtually unused, and the company decided to acquire new life jackets, and to meet the new requirements of the law (Norma Oficial Mexicana). According to the Harbor Master, now all vessels are required to have minimum safety equipment as established in the regulation: la norma Oficial mexicana (Nom 034-2009-SCT4), including fishermen.
Ultramar manager Arturo Baez Vega said,  "We know of the difficult economic situation of the fishermen, and their difficulty acquiring this equipment, which is why the company chose to promote cooperativeness by donating the life jackets."  The Ultramar manager said the equipment is in perfect condition and has always been maintained, and includes a bag, and they have only been taken out for labeling.
