The first place prize of a golf cart, (and other pirzes from sponsors) was won by the crew of the boat "Delmi", with a score of 19,765 points. The largest dorada of the tournament was caught by Imar Martinez Najera, granddaughter of Cosme Alberto Martinez Magana, whose fishing achievements are commemorated each year by an international fishing tournament in Isla Mujeres. The second place prize of a trip to Cuba was won by "HappyEnding" with 17,511, while third place went to the crew of "Mahache" with 13,970 points, who won a Suzuki motorcycle.
The Governor's wife fired the starting pistol and the celebrity soap opera star Rene Strickler took photos with those who requested them and wished the crews good luck.

There are some whale shark licensees who are seeking the reactivation of the Association of Licensees, and they want to create a Comité de Vigilancia to work with the authorities to assist with surveillance work to regulate whale shark watching and swimming activities. There could be a donation of a boat and motor involved to activate the Comite de Vigilancia. This is not supported by all the licensees.
They would seek to control access to the whale shark sighting area, depending on the number of whale sharks in the area, as well as to to carry out a sustainable management plan, and to work with environmental authorities.

Vendors peddle after inspectors finish work

Burlan ambulantes vigilancia en playas

0 15 de junio de 2014
It is noted that after five in the afternoon, when the municipal inspectors stop work, there are mobile vendors who sell on the beaches and near the Rueda Medina malecon. They say that since they have been relocated away from these areas, their income has decreased drastically and they do not make enough to support their families They also point out that the spaces near the municipal market have not been delivered, and they also have concerns that this is another attempt to make them "disappear".

Progress on jail renovation

Progress is being made on the construction of two more cells at the jail, and with the extension of the patio where people are processed. The prisoners are currently being held in the jail in Playa del Carmen during the renovations.  It was expected that the works would be completed in 30 days, and they expect or hope to finish in a timely manner, of course depending if the weather allows them to work.

The excellent weather on Saturday encouraged tourists and locals to go to the beaches, where some palapas had TVs tuned to the World Cup, as did many restaurants downtown. Some people who were eating a late breakfast or an early lunch ignored the competition, while many of the employees were interested. On Tuesday when Mexico faces Brazil, they are expecting more locals and tourists at the bars, since the match will take place during drinking hours, and is of more interest.

Contradictory occupancy statistics
Contradictorias cifras de ocupación [+] Ver mas
While the municipal Department of Tourism reports that occupancy is nearly 45%,  there are entrepreneurs in the hotel industry who claim occupancy is much lower, and they say even large hotels working directly with agencies have only 14 or 15 rooms occupied. There are owners of hotels with about 20 rooms who say they are lucky if half of their rooms are rented.
It is noted that during the day, downtown appears to be full of visitors, and during peak hours it can be difficult to stroll down Rueda Medina Avenue, because it is so full from tourists arriving on the ferries and on boats that come from the Cancun Hotel Zone with tourists on their all inclusive packages. At night the picture changes dramatically with few occupied tables at restaurants, which is considered a clear sign that hotel occupancy is not as good as the picture painted by officials.  A businessman said that the inflated figures make the hoteliers look bad with the Federal Tax officials, who do audits because they think there is tax evasion. Another said that occupancy is decreasing, not increasing. The owner of Hotel Francis Arlene said they only have three rooms rented, but like many other entrepreneurs in the industry they are working just to meet payroll and expenses, while earnings are minimal at present.
