For the first time in many years, officers of the municipal Transit Authority (Traffic Police) are implementing an operation to detect automobiles with foreign plates whose owners need to 'regularize' (legalize) their situation, starting tomorrow. This was announced by the municipal director of the Transit Authority, Jairo Chevez Juan, who said this is part of an overall operation on the island to confirm that drivers have their documentation in order, as well as that of their vehicles.
He said vehicles with foreign plates will be reviewed, as well as those with plates from other states. Vehicles with foreign plates are required to have their respective permission to enter the country, in addition to documentation of their legal stay in Mexico (permiso de ingreso al país, además de contar con documentación que acredite su legal estadía en México). Vehicles with plates from another state will be asked to update their address and get registration for this location, if this is where they are residing. He said that in both cases, if they fail to comply with the requirements set forth at the time ... que incumplan con las disposiciones que se señalen en su momento, they may be charged a fine and have their vehicle taken to the municipal impound yard.

Recently a collaboration agreement was signed between the City of Isla Mujeres and the Fundación BAI A.C. “Brazos Abiertos” (Open Arms Foundation) to provide talks and workshops in the middle schools and high schools about prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. The Foundation is from the state of Yucatan and has worked in Isla Mujeres for six consecutive years, but this is the first time there has been a formal collaboration to provide an ongoing program. They have agreed to schedule one event per month.
This agreement will allow for better coordination between the municipal departments of Health, Education, Youth, and the DIF, social service agency to have a positive effect on the students, the young people, and groups at high risk, as well as the population in general. It is anticipated that volunteers from Houston Texas will be coming to share their time, knowledge, and experience on this issue.

The general director of Security and Transit of Isla Mujeres (the municipal Police Chief),  Joaquín Poot Acosta, said that today they will begin operations to detect vehicles who have not updated their license plates. He explained that although the deadline passed over a month ago, an extension was granted to allow people to complete this obligation.
He said in order to efficiently coordinate this operation, there will be checkpoints at several parts of the town, to detect vehicles that have not been updated. He stressed that this will apply to rental vehicles, as well as those for public or private use.
He said the inspection begins today and will continue for 15 days, in order to include the entire island. They are not seeking to bother anyone, but simply requiring that drivers complete their documentation, including current drivers license, registration, and to have updated their plates ( la licencia vigente, tarjeta de circulación actualizada y así como cumplir con el reemplacamiento.)
The police are aware that drivers of rental golf carts or scooters have given their drivers licenses to the rental agencies (who are now expected to check that they have not expired). These drivers are expected to carry their rental agreements.

Por Carlos Gasca > Quequi .- Se montarán retenes para detectar a los que aún no han realizado su cambio de placas.

Doña Deicy María Loría Tamay showed her 2014 operating license and other current documents, that allow her to prepare and sell food at the loncheria "La Pasadita". She and her neighbor (la señora Miriam Quemé) have BBQ's on the sidewalk. The municipal departments of Ecology and Civil Protection have advised them to install a cone and chimney, following complaints from their neighbor Jorge Lizarraga who suffers from chronic bronchitis and blames the smoke.
Senora Deicy said they do not generate much smoke from their grill which is used to prepare tamales and other foods on Friday and Saturday, noting, "I think there is envy in all this, because the family of Senor Lizarraga also sells food."
On Sunday morning, her next door neighbor had her grill operating, while Sra Deicy did not, to show her cooperation. She said "Most people like charcoal grilled tamales, rather than baked, and when they see them on the grill, they buy them quickly. " She said the departments of Ecology, Enforcement (Fiscalizacion) and Civil Protection should be impartial to all businesses that sell food in the area, and correct what needs correction with impartiality. Offering alternative psychology to resolve childhood problems of youths and adults

The municipal Women's Institute (IMM-La Instancia Municipal de la Mujer) is offering alternative therapy to treat people who suffered from abuse, neglect, or assault, in dysfunctional families. Specialist Gloria Alarcon said this new treatment modality is offered to patients who "want to leave behind traditional psychology, which in recent years has become a way to make profits, in which the patients receive no real help to solve their problems."
She said this new treatment system reviews their entire history of live from childhood, to find the sources of their behavior. She said, "Traditional psychologists are dedicated to making money, to profiting from their work, regardless of the patient, who ultimately solves  their problems thru self healing."
She said with psychology, healing of the three primary wounds of childhood can be healed, cut away, and the patterns of childhood can be changed to clean away the legacy left by our parents. The specialist is available at the Women's Institute on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9a-4p, with no service charge for those who want to test the effectiveness of this program of assistance.
