Eduardo Peniche Rodríguez, leader of the taxi union, said the request for a 12% rate increase, that was submitted to the Department of Transportation in December, should be resolved soon. He said this is necessary because expenses have increased, but they have not had a rate increase in over five years. They are awaiting approval of the request and hope or expect it to be in force before the end of June.

The Director of the municipal Ecology department, Christina Medina Figueroa said they plan to form ten school committees to promote environmental awareness and education. She said the committees will include teachers, parents, and students working together. She said it is difficult to work with adults in environmental causes, such as the care and protection of animals, for example, but with children, "That is the time to promote environmental education with them to create a new generation of citizens who take responsibility for our surroundings."

The 20 commercial spaces at the new ferry terminal had been promised to local businesses but because of the high cost, small businesses may not be able to afford to locate there. Previously they paid less than 10,000 pesos monthly, now the costs are in dollars with an estimated first payment of 9300 dollars. A businessman said, "We were asked to pay 3 months up front (de "guante"...literally: of glove), plus two months "fondo perdido" (refundable), and one month of rental payment, in addition to 20% maintenance, which adds up to $9300, because the rent for each store is about $1500 dollars. Local businessmen say this amount is too much for them and can only be afforded by large chain stores or franchises.
