A cooperative agreement was signed between the City and Fundacion BAI A.C. "Open Arms",  with the objective of conducting educational workshops in the high schools and middle schools of the municipality to provide education about the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. Additional topics will include prevention of teenage pregnancies, AIDS, and early detection of HIV. This organization from the state of Yucatan has worked in Isla Mujeres for the past six years. This is the first time that a formal collaboration has been signed. It is an agreement to provide one event per month, and will allow better coordination with the departments of Health, Education, Youth, and the social services agency DIF.

The Navy performed a medical evacuation for a 60 year old American with heart problems who was aboard the recreational boat "Andream", approximately nine miles north of Isla Contoy. The crew of the boat requested their assistance after the passenger experienced symptoms of heart problems. Medical personnel aboard the boat stabilized the individual, who was then transported to Puerto Juarez, where an ambulance was waiting to provide transport to a private hospital in Cancun. Companions of the patient took responsibility for the medical expenses.

With a municipal investment of 280,000 pesos, the City is providing payments to cover transportation for 91 students for the months of March-April and May-June. This assistance pays for maritime transport for students at the levels of primary, middle school, high school, and college. During the school year of 2013-2014 payments of 420,000 pesos have benefited young islander students for their transportation to and from the mainland.
They announced that this program will be available for the school year of 2014-2015, with information available in August or September. The current administration also provides the scholarship program “Animo con el estudio”, which benefits 354 students. The payments were given to the students at the Plaza Habitat by municipal authorities, including the mayor, Agapito Magana Sanchez.

Reclaman un terreno anclado a Boca IglesiasReclaman un terreno anclado a Boca Iglesias

    0 18 de junio de 2014
The relatives of Melchor Rivero Caballo have filed an injunction  to stop the INAH, National Institute of Anthropology and History and claiming ownership of 2500 hectares in the continental zone of Isla Mujeres. The INAH has been working on the site for over two months. There are two archaeological sites in this area, including the historical  remains of Boca Iglesias, site of the first church built by Franciscans in the sixteenth century.
The municipal authorities have promoted the rescue of this site, and the property is advertised for sale on the internet, at a 'bargain' of 4 or 5 dollars a square meter "negotiable". The City says this legal action involves the INAH, and not the municipal government, although the City received the injunction in recent days against work being done.
The family is based in the area known as Punta Arena, and Boca Iglesias is located at the coordinates:  : latitude north at 21 degrees 30 minutes 44 seconds, and  longitude west at 86 degrees, 58 minutes, 40 seconds.
According to history, the Maya inhabited the area, despite its difficult access. Boca Iglesias had, at least on paper, the first Bishop in what would become New Spain, who was Friar Julian Garces. The euphoria unleashed by the arrival of the Conquistador Hernan Cortes to the lands of Anahuac and the immense amount of gold which he reported, prompted the Pope without effect (?provocó que las indicaciones del Papa no tuvieran efecto,) and so the church was built and remained in the hands of the Franciscans.

Opposition to taxi union leader "Wato"
Javier Manuel Acereto López, Miguel Chan Mena and Adolfo Argüelles Salas have continued to oppose the election of the leader of the taxi union, Eduardo Peniche Rodríguez “Wato” , with a fourth appeal to the Arbitration Board. (Junta Local de Conciliación y Arbitraje (JLCA) de Quintana Roo). The Arbitration Board validated the election of "Wato" on February 27th. This is the third term for the president of the taxi union, and the three men say this is not allowed by law.

Sidewalk at Punta Sur remains unfinished
En el abandono área peatonal de Punta Sur[+] Ver mas
The previous administration did not complete this sidewalk three years ago, and it remains unfinished. It is suggested that there should be sidewalks on both sides, to assure that pedestrians can walk safely and enjoy this natural beauty, that is 10 meters above sea level, and to watch the boats, the sea, and Cancun's Hotel Zone. Most of the path only has a sidewalk on one side, and there is a section without sidewalk near the park Garrafon. It is noted that lighting could be improved in the area, and that there is some grates that need attention to avoid accidents, because there are people who exercise in the early mornings and in the evenings.
