Eggs grow wings: Prices soar

Costs up to 63 pesos per carton

Se dispara precio del casillero: Cuesta hasta 63 pesos

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 19 de marzo.-

Isla Mujeres is one of the municipalities around the state, and in the Southeast, with the most expensive products, but in the case of eggs, some consider the prices as an abuse by distributors of the product, and by some business owners. In the state capital of Chetumal, a carton of eggs is 56 pesos while in Isla Mujeres the same number of eggs costs 63 pesos. This means in the state capital, homemakers are paying one peso and 85 centavos per egg while in Isla Mujeres families are spending two pesos and ten centavos per egg.  Due to these rising prices, sales have started to decline, but nevertheless eggs continue to be consumed, but with less intensity and frequency.
