Offering workshops for entrepreneurs

The State Employment Service and Job Training agency (SEECAT) will be offering various programs including tuition for training and business incentive programs. The general coordinator explained they do not just give people jobs, they also manage other programs, for example if someone needs to be trained in a trade, or needs materials to begin a business, which allows people to help support their families with trades such as carpentry, cooking, welding, mechanics, baking, and others. These programs will begin in January 2014 with an initial budget of three to four million, and have been brought to the island through the efforts of the Mayor.

On the internet in the past 24 hours...
WE DID IT! WE REACHED OUR GOAL OF $5,900!! ALL THANKS TO YOU, OUR 100+ DONORS AND EVERYONE WHO SHARED THE CAMPAIGN! WE CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH! See below for a note on our 48 Hour Challenge to SURPASS OUR GOAL and a THANK YOU NOTE FROM ALISON SAWYER CURRENT: 48 HOUR CHALLENGE: I spoke with Chris Lane this morning, the owner of www.islamujeres.info and he made a generous donation to the campaign on behalf of islamujeres.info and additionally challenged people on his sites to SURPASS THE GOAL amount, to put funds towards our spay/neuter clinics (next one is December: dogs receive not only free surgery, but de-worming medication, a month of Frontline, ear cleaning and ear mite treatment, nail clipping, tick removal, hair cuts, and any additional medications as needed FREE OF CHARGE), meds, supplies, and as always more vaccinations. I agree with him 100%!!! The campaign will be open through the weekend for a 48 hour challenge to see if we can ABOVE AND BEYOND the met goal of $5,900.00. (I worked on this page for three days fact checking with Alison, only activating it on DAY 4, MEANING YOU, our donors, have already granted our wish of $5,900.00 in SIX SHORT DAYS - AMAZING!) Isla Animals can't wait to get started with the work and make you proud! A THANK YOU NOTE FROM Alison Sawyer Current: I am overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude. I have been working with the animals on Isla Mujeres for fourteen years and I've never experienced such support, such concern and willingness to help in such a short amount of time. It has been devastating to see the animals that we've been watching over die. Millie was the first one that we lost. She lived in the Guatalupana, a poor section of the island, and we had been keeping an eye on her for over her for a year, ever since we spayed her and she had such a hard time. When we arrived with supplies for the animals Millie was the first one to meet us, she would stay with us the whole time and watched us drive away when we left. When she died we didn't' know it was distemper, we thought it was neglect and we felt like we'd failed because our ultimate goal is education. How could her family see us care so much and then let Millie starve? But, it wasn't neglect, she was the first case of distemper that we knew of. My friend Eileen Regn picked up a second dog that same day. That was five weeks ago and dogs have been dying every day since then, full grown healthy dogs withering away in less than a week. This was so preventable. We've been using every donated penny to spay and neuter as many animals as we could and there was never enough money to do vaccinations as well. You have made it possible to not only protect these dogs but show people that it's possible. I feel like I made a wish and it came true, what could possibly be better than that? Thank you everyone for caring, for giving and for listening, it takes a special person to listen and understand the need and do something about it. I like to think this is for Millie. Alison, Isla Animals

This is one way to dry out a baseball field.

Don't forget to watch out for meteors tonight! The best viewing will be at around 3am EST, but they'll be visible throughout the night and likely Sunday evening too.

Sadly, the full Moon will make viewing conditions less than ideal.
