Alderman Carlos Gamboa Ortiz said the process has begun to seek reactivation of the project for new concession to provide urban transport. It is noted that bus service was canceled in May when the lease with Turican expired, leaving hundreds of workers waiting for service to resume. The Councilman said he took the issue to the City Secretario de Gobierno, Joel Saury Galue. Sr Gamboa said it is imperative to respond to these citizen complaints and reactivate the service as soon as possible, and reach out to interested companies to serve the routes on the island and in the Continental Zone.
The Isla Turicun company had the concession for 15 years, with a poor performance, and was not allowed to provide secretario de gobierno service on the mainland, due to issues with the taxistas, as well as not extending any new routes on the island to workplaces. The Alderman said this service is very useful for the hundreds of employees, plus many of the tourists who enjoyed using it to become familiar with more of the island. It also serves residents when their families go to the beach, and taxis won't serve them because they are wet.
He said he turned the issue over to the relevant committee for analysis and to address it at an upcoming council session regarding the procedures involved to grant the concession to a company that has the ability to provide this important service.

Ishla Mujeres will be represented at the international fairs in at Berlin and Madrid, said the Director of Promotion, Gustavo Rodriguez Orozco. A plan for a more aggressive approach to boost overnight he tourism, which will need to be endorsed by the OVC, Office of Visitors & Conventions in Cancun, who manage the three percent lodging tax (IAH). Some hoteliers want the Fideicomiso de Promotion of Isla Mujeres returned to the island's Department of Tourism, to manage the more than 10 million pesos that will be collected in 2017, and to be separated from the OVC.
Sr Rodriguez Orozco  reported that the municipality now has more than 3500 rooms and construction of almost 2000 more should be finished by the end of the year, and then the municipality will have more than 5000 rooms. In the island part of the municipality, there are 1580 rooms and in Punta Sam-Isla Blanca, on the mainland, are about 2000 rooms. That peninsula has a capacity to accommodate about 30,000 rooms, according to the PDU (Program for Urban Development) for that part of the municipality.
The hotel Berny has now reopened its doors, with over 50 rooms, after three decades of being in a semi abandoned state. It was opened in 1979 as a modern building, and there were various attempts to reactivate it, but this was time it will finally be open to the pubic, after an investment of 5 million pesos for general maintenance, according to a representative of the Yucatan company.
