Annually, the DIF (social service agency) of Isla Mujeres, which is led by Marthy Vargas Leon de Magana, enlivens the Carnaval the takes place in the municipality.
Como cada año, el Sistema para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF) Isla Mujeres, que encabeza Marthy Vargas León de Magaña, engalana el carnaval que se lleva a cabo en el municipio.
On Feb. 19 we unite against violence against women and girls. We'll turn the town orange.

Sunday, at DIF Night of Carnaval, the little Gasca Camelo won the first prize in the children's costume contest as "El Robotito",(lil robot) and in the pet costume contest, a doggie named Luna won with the costume "La Diablita".(lil devil)
Ayer en el carnaval, Noche del DIF, el pequeño Gasca Camelo obtuvo el primer lugar en el concurso de disfraces infantiles como “El Robotito”, y en el de mascotas fue para la perrita llamada Luna, con su disfraz “La Diablita”.

The "Green Patrol" association premiered the idea and opened a site for recreation and conservation by the Hacienda Mundaca. The municipal Ecology department is involved in this proposal to provide more feeding stations, and encourage the citizens to participate in this environmental cause, especially in the properties near green areas, and to pay greater attention to these native reptiles.
It is known that there are certain individuals who've already responded to this need, especially foreign residents who live on the oceanfront, who are already feeding the iguanas & have them sunning themselves.On the cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea, there are still many iguanas, but they suffer attacks from humans, cats, and dogs. Although locals here do not usually eat them, some people from other parts of the country do, and bring their eating habits with them when they move here, said a resident.

Walk less than 10 minutes to shop at Chedraui or to dine at Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, or Seso Loco. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Our guests recommend the Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Then for ~8 months we are in sync w Central Time in the US, since we will no longer be changing back & forth with Daylight Savings Time. (DST is March 8-Nov.1 in the US, and April 5-Oct. 25 in Mexico.) We're only synced with EST" ~4 mos/yr from Nov 1-March 8. To permanently adjust your clocks, you can chose a location like Panama that stays on EST without changing to DST

Thursday February 12th will be the Navy Wives Breakfast at 9:00 am at Club Naval in Centro. The proceeds go to the Navy Hospital. This month the theme is Valentine's Day, and the tickets will be 120 pesos. This breakfast is really more like lunch, and we should be meeting the wife of the new commandant.
