Contract workers at General Hospital not paid for a month

ISLA MUJERES, 2 de febrero.-
The contract workers who have not been paid for the second 15 day pay period in January represent approximately 65% of the hospital staff, as of Monday, February 2nd. Last week the administrator said payment would be made  on Friday, January 30th. Affected workers include  general practitioners, specialists, nurses, general staff and cleaning personnel.

Quarantine considered by Health officials for resident of colonia Los Chiapanecos for possible case of malaria

Autoridades de Salud ponen en cuarentena una cuartería en la colonia Los Chiapanecos

Lanrry PARRA
ISLA MUJERES, 2 de febrero.-
Representatives of the Ministry of Health arrived on the island Friday afternoon in response to a possible case of malaria in a person who arrived from Chiapas a few days ago.   A quarantine was originally considered within the Chiapaneco colonia, but in the end, it was not a restricted area. If there is official confirmation that this person is infected, it would be the first case of malaria on the island in the past ten years.
The patient began to feel ill last weekend and went to the health center, and samples were sent to the laboratory. First indications are that it could be malaria, but the results of the second test for confirmation are pending.  This person is receiving medical care and treatment as tho it was a positive case of the disease. There has not yet been a diagnosis of malaria, and this account has not been confirmed by health authorities.
While waiting for the laboratory results, authorities decided to take preventative measures, which were carried out this weekend. A group of ~40 people were mobilized including officials from the Ministry of Health and staff from the Vectors department of the State Secretary of Health. Workers took preventative actions for a two block radius,  cleaning and fumigating the entire colonia, including the interiors of the homes.

Se acaban restos de embarcación hechiza+] Ver mas
The balsero boat presumed to be from Cuba, that was first spotted on Thursday night when it was afire, remains in the same area of the Caribbean sea, behind the CFE building on Juarez avenue. It continues to be dismantled by the rough seas in the area, and some people have concerns that it could cause pollution with remnants of fuel and waste. The people aboard were never found, and some witnesses reported seeing people running through the area.
