The Mayor confirmed that Isla Mujeres will host the XXXIII Congreso Nacional de la Asociación de Coreógrafos Folkloristas de México A. C. (ACFMAC). / 33rd National Congress of the Mexican Folk Dancing Choreographers Association. This important meeting of artists will take place the last week in December from the 25th to the 30th. This organization brings together groups from all states of Mexico. Their families, assistants, and colleagues will accompany them, generating tourism income. This cultural event is part of an effort to expand the multi-model of Isla Mujeres as a tourist destination with: sports, weddings, adventure, scientific, archeological, and cultural, as well as the traditional sun and beach.
The Association provides academic and artistic activities. Each delegation or folk dancing group will hold public presentations in different locations of the municipality, to share the cultural features of each state of the Republic.

Teen nearly drowned at North Beach

Eighteen year old Verenice Darian, of Cancun, was near the Mia hotel pier when she nearly drowned on Sunday afternoon. Nearby tourists provided first aid, dislodging the water she swallowed, and the Red Cross ambulance transported her to the General Hospital minutes later. The water in that area is not very deep, so it is assumed she is not a strong swimmer. A person from Civil Protection prevented a local photographer from taking pictures by putting his hand in front of the camera, which the Por Esto reporter characterized as inappropriate and questionable conduct.

. For the next month we'll be synced with EST, until March 8, when the US goes onto DST (and we don't). Then for ~8 months we are in sync w Central Time in the US, since we will no longer be changing back & forth with Daylight Savings Time. (DST is March 8-Nov.1 in the US, and April 5-Oct. 25 in Mexico.) We're only synced with EST" ~4 mos/yr from Nov 1-March 8. To permanently adjust your clocks, you can chose a location like Panama that stays on EST without changing to DST

Thursday February 12th will be the Navy Wives Breakfast at 9:00 am at Club Naval in Centro. The proceeds go to the Navy Hospital. This month the theme is Valentine's Day, and the tickets will be 120 pesos. This breakfast is really more like lunch, and we should be meeting the wife of the new commandant.
