Difficulty paying aguinaldo bonuses
En aprietos por el pago de aguinaldo[+] Ver mas
While the CROC union has assured its members that collective bargaining agreements assure they will get their aguinaldo bonuses before Dec. 20, Por Esto says the reality is very different and small hoteliers and restauranteurs will have difficulty meeting this legal requirement, due to economic situations, caused by weak demand. Some have no choice but to wait until after December 20, when they will have good occupancy rates. One owner said he currently only has two rooms occupied out of 35.

Port reopened to small vessels
Reabren el puerto a la navegación menor[+] Ver mas
Boats of less than 40 feet in length had two days of inactivity while they were restricted to port, and then it  was reopened to general navigation. This was good  news for boat tour providers, but very few of the fishermen went out because there were still strong waves offshore. This is the remnants of Cold Front 17 affecting the Yucatan Peninsula.

Few benefits from Caribbean Cultural Festival
Festival de Cultura del Caribe con pocos beneficios [+] Ver mas

Hotelier Gerardo Magana Barragan said there were few benefits to the business community from the Caribbean Cultural Festival because of the haste with which it was announced, the fact it was only one night long, and the lack of promotion. He said ideally it would have national and international publicity, and be organized in November or any month when tourism is reduced and needs to be increased, and have more advance publicity.
He said that it is true that the Islanders enjoy the cultural events, but if they are not promoted, it does not increase overnight tourism. It is to be considered that maybe this festival was organized not to attract tourists, but rather to give comfort to the people of the island, and an opportunity to learn about other Caribbean cultures, which in this case was Cuba. He said if it was promoted months in advance and promoted well next year, there might be greater financial benefit for the business community.

ZAPATOS PARA LOS NINOS   Shoes for the Children Annual Christmas Party and Shoe Drive
December is here, and we are collecting shoes and donations for our annual Christmas Party and shoe delivery.  Last year every child that came for shoes walked away with a new pair for Christmas!
This is the one time of year we only collect new shoes in order to make each child feel extra special.
Not only do we distribute shoes, but we join with the local community to provide a meal and a small gift. It is a special event, as for some of the children, it will be their only Christmas gift. They are already looking forward to it on December 24th.
If you would like to donate shoes, please contact Greg Snider at: bullridersnider@yahoo.com

If you would like to contribute monies so we can purchase shoes, food, or small toys, please also contact Greg at the email address above or go to our website for Pay Pal http://www.islazapatos.blogspot.mx/   We will happily send you photos of the children who receive your gifts.   Greg and Natalie

Daily Update: You’re not going to believe how many of my babes went to homes and/or rescues last week with all the volunteers who came down for the Bonfil Clinic. Thor and Heather (the Meanies, who weren’t really mean), Momma Wheat and her pup Tony, Golda, Momma Gerdy, Mona, Lucille and then Gypsy went out in a local adoption and Feather went to Minneapolis. It was incredible and lucky because it made room for the thirty new pups and the momma. I will be updating the adoption page on the web site so you will be able to see all the new puppies individually. Brad, who needs to be treated for heartworm and three teenagers are still here. The picture is of some of our new babes in recovery at the clinic, how sweet is that? We saw another case of distemper yesterday so we still have to wait three weeks before we can start our vaccination campaign. Yuck.

Cash No Longer Valid for Purchases with Facturas in Mexico over $2,000 Pesos (?)

Dec. 15, 2013:Yet new twists have appeared out of Mexico’s latest tax system revisions. Various internet sources report:
~ We must use credit cards (debit cards?), checks, or bank transfers for any purchases over $2,000 pesos using a factura after Jan.1, 2014.
~ When using facturas, only electronic facturas will be permitted. The electronic facturas are currently in place at a number of businesses, where they print out an official factura for the customer and simultaneously send the same information to SAT/Hacienda. Businesses without a computer factura generating system on site can use a SAT webpage to log each transaction and to print out a factura.
Both of these measures are huge steps to allow Mexican Government tracking of monies spent by ordinary people and ordinary businesses.

Many of us locals are regular clients. Nirit speaks fluent English as well as Hebrew, and Spanish.
