The event was a success and there are plans to continue working against the presence of lion fish in Isla Mujeres. There will be a fishing tournament in the near future, through the municipal Fishing Agency, la Dirección de Pesca.
Brisas Grill prepared the winning plate;  an entire fish, whose technical presentation, flavor, and creativity impressed the judges. Second place was won by a stuffed filet prepared by Los Compadres restaurant, and third place went to Asia Grill with a tamarind fish.
The beach club Zama currently has a lion fish dish on their menu, and their chef Diago Lopez presented this dish. The director of the municipal Ecology agency thanked the participants who included  Faynes, Miramar, Los Compradres, La Catrina, Amigos, Asia Caribe, Mininos, Viñales, Rolandis, Picus, Velázquez, Brisas Grill, Don José and Justicia Social; as well as the fishing cooperatives Macax, Justicia Social, Isla Blanca and Patria y Progreso, whose members captured the specimens for the restaurants to prepare.
Awards were also given to students who were winners in the contest "Writing a story about nature and the environment" , organized by the municipal Ecology agency, with the support of Dolphin Discovery who provided double passes to swim with the dolphins to the winning youngsters.

These explosive items that are usually marketed during the holiday season are upsetting residents who are asking authorities to intervene. They are concerned about potential accidents, and having difficulty sleeping. On Monday evening, various people complained to Public Safety (police) officers about the constant sound of firecrackers in the parks and even in the market at colonia Canotal where there is incomplete work. The youngsters also use the bathrooms and rooms because they like the echo. Someone even threw a firecracker into a business where people were practicing the dance-exercise "Zumba".  It is also said that the Civil Protection agency should intervene, and that authorities should put a stop to businesses that are selling these items.

ZAPATOS PARA LOS NINOS   Shoes for the Children Annual Christmas Party and Shoe Drive

December is here, and we are collecting shoes and donations for our annual Christmas Party and shoe delivery.  Last year every child that came for shoes walked away with a new pair for Christmas!
This is the one time of year we only collect new shoes in order to make each child feel extra special.
Not only do we distribute shoes, but we join with the local community to provide a meal and a small gift. It is a special event, as for some of the children, it will be their only Christmas gift. They are already looking forward to it on December 24th.
If you would like to donate shoes, please contact Greg Snider at: bullridersnider@yahoo.com

If you would like to contribute monies so we can purchase shoes, food, or small toys, please also contact Greg at the email address above or go to our website for Pay Pal http://www.islazapatos.blogspot.mx/   We will happily send you photos of the children who receive your gifts.   Greg and Natalie
