The Director of Public Works, César Poot Pérez, explained there is a warranty that will provide for replacement of the paint of the newly renovated basketball court, which was damaged in the recent rains. He said there is a one year guarantee and the City will require the company that did the work to do the necessary repairs.
He said, "We have asked the contractor for the total removal of the court paint and the application of new paint, which will be carried out as soon as the rains cease." The City will not provide any funds, since the company responsible for the work is committed to carrying out the guarantee as soon as possible.
With the start of rainy and hurricane season, city agencies including Civil Protection are carrying out ongoing preventative work such as cleaning catchment basins, cleaning up litter and trash, pruning trees, and renovating storm drains & grates to prevent accidents during heavy rains. Citizens are asked to cooperate by keeping the areas in front of their homes clean of trash and litter, and to secure any items that could become projectiles in strong winds. The Mayor said the safety of the citizenry and their property is a priority and his government is working on preventative measures to reduce the effects on the community during rain and hurricane season.

It also notes there are hurricane shelters with a total capacity for about 3000 people on the island and on the mainland. On the island there are shelters to provide refuge for about 2000 people including 200 on the Navy base, 200 at the main shelter, and there are other shelters. Residents on the higher parts of the colonias of La Gloria, Cañotal, Miraflores, Caridad del Cobre, Caribeña, Meteorológicos, and others provide shelter to family and friends. There are two pumps on the Salina lakes which have reduced the problems with flooding.
Date to be set for liberation of the rescued dolphin "Paki"
Sin fecha para liberar al delfín “Paki”. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
The dolphin "Paki" has been cured of his chronic gastric infection and parasites and could be released in a week, according to Rosy Cerrillos, official of the Dolphin Discovery who has been in charge of the rehabilitation of the mammal since he was rescued May 2 from a beach below island cliffs. There is no date for the release at the moment, and a decision by the municipal government is expected, which could happen next week.
The dolphin is estimated to be about 25 years old, and was suffering from a chronic gastric infection, parasites, and dehydration when he was rescued from a cliff-side beach near colonia La Gloria and Isla 33 condominiums. He is a Rough Toothed Dolphin ( (Steno bredanensis) and was taken to the Tortugranja and given 24 hour care, and improved slowly over several days, under the care of specialists from Dolphin Discovery. They are members of the Beached Marine Mammal Network and provided assistance in response to a request from City officials. In 2015, a dolphin was successfully released after treatment. Another dolphin was unsuccessfully treated, and "Paki" had been a success.
It will now depend on Isla Mujeres municipal staff to conduct the release in upcoming days. Personnel with the municipal agencies of Environment and Ecology, Civil Protection, the Federal Maritime Zone (ZOFEMAT) and volunteers will be conducting an evaluation in order to set the date and time for the transfer of the dolphin into the open sea. It is likely that a temporary satellite device will be placed to monitor its progress in the next few days, which was done with the other dolphin.
