Successful fishing tournament
The 14th edition of the International Sport Fishing Tournament "Cosme Alberto Martinez Magaña" concluded successfully, after the crew of the boat ''La Gozadera ', from the city of Chetumal, won first place with 9107 points. The crew and captain, Angel Gomez Sutherland, were awarded 350,000 pesos in cash.
Second place went to the '' Nautilus '', from Cancun, with a total of 6,200 points, who won a pick up truck. Third place went to the "Mavie, also from Cancun, who won 100,000 pesos with a score of 5618 points.
This famous Isla Mujeres sporting event features "Capture and Release", releasing 48 fish this year, in which the leading boats were "La Gozadera", with a blue marlin, 'Raulk', with a white marlin, and '' Cuchipirri '', with two sailfish.        At the conclusion of the event, the municipal president, Juan Carrillo Soberanis, and other municipal and maritime authorities, recognized the great work of the late Cosme Alberto Martínez Magaña, in whose honor this important sporting event of international stature is named.
The International Fishing Tournament "Cosme Alberto Martínez Magaña" attracted a large number of fishing enthusiasts, who along with family and friends were able to enjoy the attractions of the municipality and the activities that were organized as part of the fishing tournament.

Good economic benefits from fishing tournament
- Thanks to the support of the City of Isla Mujeres, headed by the municipal president, Juan Carrillo Soberanis, and the work of service providers and island society during the weekend of the XIV International Sport Fishing Tournament "Cosme Alberto Martínez Magaña", the municipality recorded high rates of hotel occupancy and tourism.          Fishing fans and tourists from Mexico and the United States arrived this weekend to the island to be part of this important sporting event, which, in addition to being a tradition for islanders, benefits the economic growth and development of  all families who live in Isla Mujeres.
The Mayor said, "The International Sport Fishing Tournament 'Cosme Alberto Martínez Magaña' uses the 'Catch and Release' method and people from other states of Mexico and from the United States look forward to this event with great enthusiasm."
The mayor reaffirmed his commitment to continue supporting these types of events which undoubtedly generate great benefits for the economy of the islanders, as they increase considerably the hotel occupancy with the arrival of the participants and their families to the municipality.          "That we are a Pueblo Magico, as well as the indirect promotion that results from our beaches being among the best in the world and the traditional events that we have, gives us the great competitive advantage which we undoubtedly have and will continue to take advantage of, with intense promotional work", said the municipal president .

Finally, Juan Carrillo Soberanis said his municipal government is committed to continuing to carrying out actions for the island to maintain and extend its growth, both in regard to hotel occupancy and regarding the amount of tourists that visit the destination during this type of events, benefiting the economies of all island families.

"La Gozadera": Winner of the Fishing Tournament

See City section. PE also reports that "Malolo", of Isla Mujeres, took fourth place, with 5600 points. In fifth position, was "Off Dutty", of Cancún; and in sixth place, was "Crazy Fish", also of Isla Mujeres.  In a duel between the two destinations, Cancun took sixth, eighth went to Isla Mujeres, ninth went to Cancun and Playa del Carmen took tenth place.
Seventy boats participated, which was less than expected, and the tournament was cncelled twice because of bad weather in the previous month.
The captain of the winning boat, Angel Gomez Sutherland, captured a blue marlin worth more than 6,000 points, and the other fish they caught earned 1,770 points.
However, the captain of the Moby Dick, Gerardo Saqui García (eighth position), requested a review of the video of that fish being caught, because it was his opinion that it was a sailfish, not a blue marlin.
The organizing committee confirmed that there were many picudo fish caught during this event and it could become one of the tournaments in which there are many videos of sailfish, white marlin and blue marlin being caught. This last species has the maximum score of 6 thousand points per adult specimen.

The beach of the Caribe fishing cooperative was full before 4 pm when the fishermen began to arrive and an hour later the scale was closed to start adding up the points and determining the winners. The prizes were scheduled to be awarded at Playa Centro at 7pm.

Correction of information about the car that was stolen in Queretaro and recovered in Isla Mujeres

There is a correction of information clarifying that the stolen vehicle was a Chevy, not a Dodge and that the information about the intersection where it was impounded was also incorrect, since the two streets named don't intersect. (I didn't translate the misinformation, since there was a photo of the Camero & I knew those streets don't intersect).
There is a weather forecast saying that the climate is expected to be favorable on Monday for tourism activities.(We've had lovely, sunny weather today. Please pardon my late publishing. I got distracted writing an historical article, for an Isla History FB page I started last week. I'll probably add a History blog and paste the essays there for those of you who don't follow Facebook.)
