On Mainland Isla Mujeres, the Mayor is laying the first stone for a children's playground and inaugurating the second phase of the recreation facility of Ciudad Mujeres. He also gave the green light to construction of curbs and sidewalks and the opening of the metropolitan highway of colonia Las Americas. These two events are part of a package of works that will benefit a large number of families in the area. He is fulfilling  campaign promises about 'regularizing' the deeding of the land, and to build parks in the public space, as well as markets, a library and a cemetery. The work begun today will include the construction of 648 square meters of concrete sidewalks, and they will be constructing or installing benches, lights, trash cans, signs, playground equipment, and vegetation.

El tercero de la temporada de langosta

Lanrry PARRA
ISLA MUJERES, 18 de noviembre.-.Today was the third case of a fisherman suffering decompression during this lobster season, by a member of the cooperative Por la Justicia Social. He presented with sickness from decompression type one, which is considered mild and not life threatening. Manuel Jesús Puc, 36, suffered symptoms while diving 12 nautical miles from Isla Mujeres, to a depth of 80 feet or 25 meters. With an oxygen tank, he made a total of six trips to the bottom, in intervals of ten minutes each. The first symptoms he experienced that indicated he should return to the capsule was pain of the shoulder, elbow and wrist. He received treatment in the hyperbaric chamber, and left the hospital after two hours, free of pain.

Daltazar Gomez Catzin reports that in general this season, the five local fishing cooperative have reported low production of lobster, but they are now having good catches, after several days of work at sea. The winds of the last few days have brought a fair amount of lobster and their catches have improved.

Preparan la chalana que partirá a Veracruz

    0 19 de noviembre de 2013

Por Carlos Gasca/Quequi   The company Construcciones Industriales  has a barge SB-5 tied to one of the concrete piers that they acquired, which needed some work on its hull, before it embarks on a trip to Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz. This barge is used for the construction of piers and platforms, holding up to 1200 tonnes, and will receive some welding work before departure. The work is being done in Isla Mujeres and could take up to two weeks, depending on the weather. The rain was delaying the work. When it gets to Coatzacoalcos, they plan to put it in dry dock for more maintenance.

If you want to by a wrap please look for Doña Juana. She can usually be found across the sandy road from Privilege Luxes or closer in town near Velasquez. Doña Juana is the mother of a young woman who I co-sponsored for three years while she attended university. I currently am co-sponsoring another of her daughters who is going to university to become a teacher like her older sister. Doña Juana supports her family by selling wraps and I would appreciate it if you support her. Thank you!
