At the second  "Diálogos con la comunidad” meeting, the Mayor announced plans to rehabilitate the Senior Citizens Park in colonia La Gloria. The Public Works Director said the funds have already been authorized by the Council. The work will include renovating the bathrooms, installing fencing, and painting.

    Mega-yacht nearly ends in flames

     A mega yacht named "Azul", flying a Mexican flag, was in dry dock at Villa Vera Marina receiving fiberglass repairs and maintenance when a fire broke out in a container of trash that contained some of the fiberglass catalyst. This sparked a fire alert on board the yacht and the warning spread rapidly. Emergency crews from Civil Protection and Aguakan arrived shortly after 7pm,  and were denied access temporarily, which was an oversight. 

       When workers realized the problem they boarded the boat, threw the container overboard, and extinguished the fire. It is not known whether there was damage to the yacht, and authorities did not issue a statement.

    Residents expressed concern that the Salina Grande in la Gloria could overflow because the water level was rising, and some are suggesting that the Civil Protection Agency should activate the pumps. The reporter did a tour of La Gloria, Amplification la Gloria, and Canotal, and observed that the water was at a normal level and stated there is no need to panic.

Heavy rains that fell just before the start of the school day caused truancy in some schools, but to a lesser degree at the downtown school "Andres Quintana Roo" where only 20 students were absent. Most of the students of that school live within a few blocks of the campus.

Heavy rains surprised islanders and affected different parts of the municipality in the morning when flooding occurred downtown and in some of the colonias, including Miraflores, Salinas, and La Gloria. Some businesses and homes were affected downtown when the water level rose over 60 centimeters, and there was overflowing near the municipal market. There was flooding at the intersection of Abasolo and Hidalgo (Barlito's corner). The Director of Civil Protection said the pumps were turned on in the morning. On Wednesday, personnel with Civil Protection were de-silting the storm drain near the Monument to the Fishermen (at the north end of main street, by the roundabout).

The workers building the new ferry terminal broke a storm drain to the sea, which caused a flood within minutes,  in front of the terminal, affecting businesses, homes, residents, and Ultramar passengers. The problem was resolved after almost two hours.

Activities began on Monday for the Second National Week of Oral Health, which include campaigns in the primary schools. The Hospital Director taught the students at "Andres Quintana Roo" school about brushing & flossing techniques, the importance of oral care, and the application of fluoride. He asked the children to share the information with family and friends. He said dental cavities affect a large percentage of the population, and can cause other health problems.
