Latent revision of POEL
Given possible construction in sensitive areas such as the Chacmuchuch Peninsula (in the mainland area of Isla Mujeres)
Latente revisión del POEL

Ante posibles construcciones en zonas sensibles como la Península de Chacmuchuch
Lanrry PARRA
ISLA MUJERES, 18 de noviembre.-
Leer más...With the potential for high density development on the mainland area of Isla Mujeres, there could be revisions to the Ecological Program for the municipality, said the director of Ecology, Cristina Medina Figueroa. This review could include the areas of Punta Sam, Playa Mujeres, Costa Mujeres, Santa Fátima, and La Angostura, among others. There are building projects whose maximum density should be 30 percent and not 40 to 60 percent, which appears to be under consideration at the Peninsula of Chacmuchmuch, which is part of this municipality by Isla Blanca.
There are projections of construction of hotels with a combined total of ~25,000 rooms, including medium and long term rentals. However this would endanger plants such as the mangroves that abound in these areas, and there is roadwork planned from the last (PAN) administration that could obstruct the natural passage of seawater. Environmentalists want to reclaim the area called La Angostura to maintain the area's natural oxygenation over more than 12,000 hectares. This area is considered a "nursery" for marine life along the Northern Zone of Quintana Roo.
There is no information available about a request for a civil partnership to convert the perimeter of the lagoon into a reserve, rather than just one sixth as was passed by the government of Quintana Roo, which will initiate the Program of Management in 2014, along with the Laguna Manatí.

The nice weather during the extended weekend in honor of the celebration of the Mexican Revolution was enjoyed by many tourists in Isla Mujeres. Hotel occupancy averaged 60 percent, and there were many families enjoying the beaches. This is the last long weekend of the year until the December holidays. The restaurants were operating at 60-70 percent. The nautical tours were also doing well and it is noted that they cost 350 pesos per person including lunch.
"Buen Fin" weekend discounts in restaurants & shops
“Buen Fin” en restaurantes y comercios[+] Ver mas
For the weekend of Buen Fin, there were restaurants and shops in Isla Mujeres offering discounts. Sales increased between 20 and 30 percent for some retailers and restaurants, however this was also due to the long holiday weekend for Revolutionary Day. The president of the Chamber of Commerce estimated about half of the businesses who are members participated in the discount program, offering discounts up to 30 percent, hoping to attract both tourists and local residents. Some local citizens have received their bonuses and other benefits and were taking advantage of the discounts, and there was no shortage of families and young people celebrating int he restaurants and bars downtown.

The General Hospital continues to offer this season's flu vaccine against H1-N1 to children and elderly people, and they are giving 30- 40 doses per week, which is expected to increase when temperatures drop. They were first made available in early November, and they are also recommended for anyone suffering a chronic degenerative disease. The hospital is also administering vaccines against Pnuemoccocal pneumonia to senior citizens and invite people to come by between 8am and 7pm.

Isla Animals Daily
Update: Two days ago I got at least ten emails about a dog that had
fallen off of a roof and injured it’s leg. I went over to investigate
and she was half of a pair of dogs called Chocolate and Vanilla. It
appears that these two dogs have been abandoned and they’re obviously
not doing well on their own. Last week a woman named Kelly brought me
Chocolate who had been hit by a car. He had a wounded back foot and
horrible scrape along one side of his body. We took him to the vet
where he stayed for a week and got TLC and anti-biotics. When Kelly
took him back to his street Vanilla was ecstatic to see him. Then I got
the calls about another hurt dog and this time it was Vanilla, she has
broken her front leg. Eileen and I took her to Cancun yesterday and had
an x ray done, apparently it’s a nasty fracture; she can’t use it at
all. She’s still in Cancun while we decide what should be done. These
two dogs are sweet, they must have been loved and they definitely are
not doing well on their own but I was so impressed by the number of
calls that I got from people who lived nearby and cared about these
dogs. Unfortunately I can’t take this pair in because of the distemper
outbreak, it’s not safe for the dogs that I already have. A big thank
you to Kelly who set up a monthly donation and brought our pledges up to
1,405.00, we’re getting there. http://islaanimals.org/help/ donate-animal-rescue-isla-anima ls.html
