Another promise fulfilled
Proposal to remit fines on property taxes & trash fees
The information has already been translated about the Council's approval to give 100% discount of fines and penalties from November 15 to 30. Tax payers are encouraged to catch up on their delinquent property taxes during this time. The other tax payment incentive that passed was the discount on property taxes of 25% in December, 15% in January, and 10% in February. Taxpayers who are disabled or retired, with a credential from INAPAM or INSEN can receive a 50% discount, provided they pay their annual taxes in a single payment, (up to a value of 20,000 x the minimum daily wage, which is the equivalent of ~$5usd, and they must be current on payments from previous years.)
Yesterday afternoon the Health Fair was inaugurated with an opening event commemorating World Diabetes Day. Agencies participating in the Health Fair included the DIF, the staff of the General Hospital, the IMSS, the ISSSTE, and the Naval Hospital. Services offered included testing of glucose and blood pressure, height and weight ratios for risk factors, and immunizations. Information was given about preventing chronic degenerative diseases, avoiding infective diseases, oral health, nutrition, gastrointestinal disorders, dengue, and respiratory disorders.
Guadalupe Martínez Márquez, representative of the Asociación de Hoteles de Isla Mujeres (HIM), said that 30 percent of their rooms are reserved for the holiday season during Christmas and New Year. She said reservations are increasing as we approach the holiday season, which is expected to be one of the best in recent years. The increased number of visitors is expected to continue after the holiday season, in the months of January, February, March and some days of April.

The State Employment Service and Job Training agency (SEECAT) will be offering various programs including tuition for training and business incentive programs. The general coordinator explained they do not just give people jobs, they also manage other programs, for example if someone needs to be trained in a trade, or needs materials to begin a business, which allows people to help support their families with trades such as carpentry, cooking, welding, mechanics, baking, and others. These programs will begin in January 2014 with an initial budget of three to four million, and have been brought to the island through the efforts of the Mayor.
