Fishermen At Work
Commercial fishermen were able to resume operations on Thursday, and during this weekend, after five days off word due to weather. FIsherman Jose Roberto complained that he only caught 5 kilos of fish after spending several hours at sea. When asked what species he was catching, he replied, "El jurel, el pargo y coronado. (Mackerel, snapper, and coronado) He said he would be keeping some of them for his own use, because sales remain low. Tourism Improves After Rains
Por Esto reports the occupancy rate remained at 40%, and business owners are confident that it will improve after July 21st, with the onset of summer holidays. The hotel association, HIM, said the summer season looks good for many of their members. They allocate money annually for promotion and participate in tourism & travel fairs in Mexico, and in foreign countries. The reporter toured the streets of Isla Mujeres and noted that domestic tourism has increased, and that there were people taking advantage of the sunshine and working on their tans.  Some restaurants had closed for three days during the rain, and were now experiencing a good influx of diners.
