A presentation was held for a new website promoting hotels of Isla Mujeres, which included the Director of the Isla Mujeres Trust for Tourism Promotion agency, the State Undersecretary of Tourism, and the Director of Sales for TravelClick company, who conducted the presentation of the project. The company specializes in the technological development of websites dedicated to the hotel industry. The Sales Director gave details of the new plan and e-commerce strategy, saying it will be a very dynamic project. In addition to showing the tourist attractions of the island, it will offer space for each hotel to have a presentation on that site, with connections to the hotel that do not require intermediary agencies. The project has been approved and they are waiting for the hoteliers to provide the documents and photographs, within 40 days.

Seeking to protect tourists from accidents at piers Piden proteger a turistas en muelles.Por Ovidio López - Isla Mujeres

Fernndo Velazquez Celis complained about boats docking in front of his restaurant business, specifying the catamarans named Albatros coming from Cancun, saying they nearly caused a boating accident. He said they tie together their boats,  with up to four boats tied together, to avoid docking fees. He said the catamarans unload people at the downtown pier, then they sit in that position for several hours, which is inappropriate, and they should be out in the Bay properly. He said "We are asking for the intervention of the Ministry of Communications and Transport. (SCT)". At the time of the interview, the reporter could see two of the boats, and there was a boat named Carnival parked at the Velasquez dock, with more than 300 passengers, having a difficult time maneuvering
Resources for the promotional video

Gestionarán recursos para video promocional Por Ovidio López - Isla Mujeres.

Officials are assuring the media that it will soon be released, but a time and date have not been set. The state government did not make a payment more than two years ago, so the company retained the video. Some entrepreneurs say it will need to be upgraded to include new attractions like the Caribbean boardwalk. (The unpaid bill was for editing more attractions into the first version.) Last week at at meeting of the Technical Committee of the Promotional Tourism Trust of Isla Mujeres, the (state) Secretary of Tourism. Juan Carlos Gonzalez, confirmed the the video will be released soon, and offered to channel 500,000 pesos to cover costs for its immediate use in the summer season, but no date was set for delivery.

Last night a Mama turtle crawled up (at left) and dug a nest at right

Upcoming Events

Friday, June 28 at 8pm    Town Square Stage   "Tradiciones Isleñas” Senior Talent & Beauty Competition

Sunday, June 30   El Pescador Field:  Baseball

Thursday, July 4  at 4-7pm  Town Square  Art Fair

It is currently the season for swimming with the whale sharks, and turtles are mating offshore & nesting on the eastern beaches. The mating is visible by day, especially off Punta Sur, the South Point. The nesting happens in the wee hours, and there are Tortugranja personnel, volunteers, and Naval staff monitoring the beaches to prevent people from disrupting them, and to gather and transport the eggs for incubation.
By far, most of the turtles nesting in Isla Mujeres are Green turtles (called Blancas in Spanish), and the second most common are the huge Loggerheads, and there are some Hawksbills.  The Green turtles take ~60 days to hatch and the hatchlings are released by the public at events at dusk on Media Luna or Guadalupana beaches. The releases will begin in about a month & be held periodically until early October.

Food In Isla Mujeres:

Se venden tamales a $10.00 y brazos de reina a $15.00  Manden inbox si quieren
Merca Isla is a FB page for free ads in Spanish. This says Ms Canto is selling tamales for 10 pesos and Brazos de Reina for 15 pesos.  I looked up Brazos de Reina (which translates literally as Queen's Arm).  And most of the photos looked like this....(Some had almonds, some had strawberries, or other fruit) and the recipes came from South America, mostly

But then I ran across this Very Different version from the Yucatan...The recipe says...boil and peel a dozen eggs. Season 900gms of masa with salt and pork lard (to taste), and add the 300g of thinly chopped chaya, and 200g of crushed pumpkin seed (calabaza molida) and knead well for 10 mins.Form the "arms" brazos by dividing the dough into four squares 20x20cm, putting the boiled eggs in the center, and carefully roll them up and secure with half a banana leaf and tie (use a strip of the leaf).Cook in a water bath for 90 mins. Serve in 3cm slices topped with tomato sauce and sprinkled with ground pumpkin seeds.(Recipe is courtesy of chef Miriam Restaurant Azcurra Kinich of Izamal in Yucatan, Mexico during the culinary festival 'A taste of Merida' made in the Jaguar Restaurant in Coconut Grove.
