Sidewalks Narrow Curve At Peninsular Entrance
Taxi drivers are complaining that the new construction on the road in Sac Bajo has created a dangerous situation at the curve near the junction of the street, because it is too narrow. There is now more space for pedestrians, but less for vehicles. Source: Diario Q Roo/Manuel Valdez

Storm Safety In The Continental Zone
The chairman of the Public Safety Commission, Enrique Tejero, requested equipment for the Civil Protection department to prepare them for the hurricane season which has now begun. He said he met with the Mayor to tell him what equipment is necessary to ensure they are well prepared for any possible contingency in the continental municipality. He acknowledged the Continental Zone has adequate shelters for the families, which include the schools, community center, and the taxi union building. Source: Diario Q Roo/Manuel Valdez

Church Celebration Ending & Youth Work Continues
The priest of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in La Gloria, Raúl Sánchez Alonzo, said he is working with groups of youths and encouraging them to become involved in the Catholic religion and sports such as soccer and boxing. He is planning to start a radio station on the internet. His Church is celebrating its second anniversary and he took charge of the parish a year and a half ago. Investing In Improving Schools
The Mayor of Isla Mujeres, Hugo Sanchez Montalvo signed a cooperative agreement for the municipality with the Quality Schools Trust ( el Fideicomiso Escuelas de Calidad), in the City and the Trust will each contribute 80,000 pesos. Sixty thousand pesos will be used for the benefit of the preschool/kindergarten Gavriela Mistral, and 100,000 pesos will be used for the preschool/kindergarten Jaun de la Barrera, which is located on the mainland. Occupancy Improvement Expected During Whale Shark Festival
Occupancy has remained at 40% during the rainy weather, with no reported cancellations or early departures, while tourism service providers have been severely affected by the bad weather which caused visitors to stay in their hotels. When the port was closed the boats under forty feet, the members of the five commercial fishing cooperatives were left idle. Travel agents reported that there were cancellations of virtually all tours since last Sunday, until they were able to go out on Friday. Hotel occupancy is expected to reach 70% during the Whale Shark Festival form June 21-24, based on last years statistics, if the weather cooperates. Businesses were affected by weather from Sunday to Thursday, but tourists were enjoying the beaches and dining and shopping on Friday. Source Por Esto

Schools Had 2 Days Off & No Damage From Rains
Classes in Isla Mujeres were suspended for two days during the five days of almost continuous rains, and they returned to school on Thursday. While there was some flooding in some schoolyards, there was minimal damage, and the schools themselves, which also serve as hurricane shelters, were not affected. Some water entered one classroom at the grade school Julio Sauri Espinosa, but there was no effect to the furniture or the infrastructure. The windows and doors have been repaired, but the entrances to the halls slope inward, and this problem was supposedly repaired. The ENLACE tests that were scheduled for Monday and Tuesday were rescheduled for Thursday and Friday. Source; Por Esto
