Hoy celebramos el 93 aniversario de la muerte de Felipe Carrillo Puerto, político, periodista y caudillo revolucionario mexicano.
Here's some info from Wiki in Spanish about him:
Felipe Santiago Carrillo Puerto was born on November 8, 1874 and died on January 3, 1924 in Merida. He was a Mexican politician and revolutionary leader who was Governor of the Yucatán from 1922 to 1924.
Felipe Carrillo was known for the social and educational works he carried out during his revolutionary government, as well as his commitment to the well-being of the Mayan Indians and his confrontation with the state hacendados during the revolutionary period.
On February 6, 1922, he enacted the Rationalist Teaching Act, a measure that established the Rationalist School throughout the state. The students acquired knowledge of life itself. Schools were given the means necessary for this type of education; The farms, the orchards and the workshops became common parts of schools.
In 1923, being governor of Yucatan, he was overthrown by the huertistas who tried to take control of the country, and then they dominated in Yucatán. After his overthrow and capture, Felipe Carrillo was shot 3 of January of 1924 in the general cemetery of Mérida, Yucatán, along with 11 other people, among them, three of his brothers.
In 1927 Felipe Carrillo Puerto was declared to have meritorious status in Yucatán by the Congress of that state.
