In addition to victims of decompression, the chamber can be used to treat patients with orthopoedic problems, skin problems, severe burns, and other conditions. There is interest in opening the chamber to use by other municipalities and to serve foreign patients.
The local government not only attends to those in the fishing industry by assigning a physician to the Hyperbaric Chamber, they are also serving the senior citizens by providing medical consultations at the Community Centers on the Island and in the Continental Zone. There have been health brigades in the Continental Zone of Isla Mujeres, including a mobile health unit.

Due to this situation, they have borrowed the General Hospital ambulance to perform transfers, respond to calls, and attend to other types of emergencies. It is urgent that efforts be made so that the Red Cross of Isla Mujeres can obtain another ambulance, otherwise their paramedics cannot meet the needs for help from the Islanders and the visitors.
It is noted that there is a nation wide program which would donate a second ambulance to the Red Cross of Isla Mujeres if any agency or institution donated a ambulance, whose cost is estimated at 350,000 pesos, and then they would have two units.

This need was brought into focus today (Monday) by Carlos Manuel Herrera after his son was taken to the General Hospital in Isla Mujeres, and needed to be transported to Cancun, but he waited nearly an hour in Gran Puerto, for an ambulance transport to a hospital in Cancun. The visibly angry father said if there was a maritime ambulance they would not have to wait for the departure times of the ferry, nor would they have to wait so long for an ambulance to arrive in Puerto Juarez. He said better coordination is needed between the ambulance and the hospital. In this case, the patient was about to suffocate, and would have been better waiting under medical supervision at the hospital on the island. He says this is not a unique case and claims there are problems about once a week, either with the ferries, the ambulances, or other difficulties relating to these transfers.

Elderly marginalized by lack of aid
Marginan a los abuelos de ayudas[+] Ver mas
In this article, an unnamed " official with the former administration"..."who has full knowledge on this topic" makes accusations that there is "deliberate marginalization of dozens of elderly persons" while other elderly citizens are "required to fill spaces at official events" .
The reporter recalls the story published in PE a few days ago about Venancio Tun Tec, who is in his eighties, and lost his federal governmental assistance of 900 pesos monthly. He is learning a livelihood selling sea shells (and recovering from a stroke.)
PE says there is knowledge of at least twenty more who are no longer receiving support, including Mercedes Martinez. She is an elderly invalid whose two wheelchairs are not working, so she remains seated in the door to her home in colonia Caribeña.
She said she is not getting food assistance and complains that the laws protecting the rights of the elderly are being ignored, and that she should be included in the program " “60 y más”. Her family confirmed her explanation and said the DIF should serve everyone without distinction.
Responding to complaint of noise pollution
Atienden el caso de contaminación sonora [+] Ver mas
Authorities are meeting to discuss the situation regarding complaints from citizens alleging noise pollution and clandestine fiestas in Colonia Caribena on lotes 9 & 10 of Manzana 174. They have sent two notices to the owner Gabriel Osorio Martinez, and if he does not respond, a subpoena for his attendance could be issued by this Thursday. An inspection may be done because this location lacks permits for parties whose noise exceeds 60 decibels, in this residential neighborhood. Regarding the alleged clandestine cock fights, that would be referred to the prosecutors if this is found, with gambling and all that goes with it.
The reporter consulted the accused, and was invited into his home, where there were large music speakers. The accused said they have parties, but they are for his daughter and are for youths (minors). He took the reporter out into the yard where there were more than twenty chickens, as well as a rabbit and some birds. All are enclosed. Some were the type for fighting, some were livestock, and some were exotic. He said an animal lover helps him care for them, and that he rescued the fighting cocks from the mainland. He said he does not have cock fighting on his property, noting there are two places on the island where this occurs.
He said he lacks permits because permits are not required for his birds. He says they are puzzled.

José Méndez is an electronics specialist whose green scooter spent two years on police property, due to the legal process that occurred after he was seriously injured in an accident with a car. When he sought to recover his vehicle, it was lacking a headlight, seat, carrier, and carburetor, and possibly other parts that would require a technician's inspection. Mr Mendez wanted his vehicle returned to him in the same state it was received, and says it is regrettable that this sort of thing could occur inside the secure facility of the City. No one denies that parts went missing from his vehicle, because there is a document from when the scooter entered the police unit. He has filed a complaint with the Ministerio Público.
He was badly injured in an accident in front of the gas station near the high school (Colegio Bachilleres), and was in a coma with head wounds and various injuries, that kept him under medical care for several weeks. When he recuperated enough to recover his vehicle, he found that he had been blamed, and initiated legal procedures to defend himself, because he was found to not be drunk when the accident occurred.
Complaints against kiosk
Puesto ambulante de tours.. [+] Ver mas
Businesses on Hidalgo Avenue who offer tours and activities to tourist are asking municipal officials to intervene and remove a kiosk at the intersection of Hidalgo and Adolfo Lopez Mateos Avenues, by the City Cemetery wall. The complainants include Roberto Arias Acosta, of the agency “Fantasea Tours”; Andrés Fernández Álvarez, “SqualoAdventures”; Ariel Roxana Díaz, “Isla Mujeres Trips”; Puerto Osorio, “Info Center VIP”; and Abelardo Cohello, “Happy Tours”. They have complained in writing, saying this module is not in compliance with regulations, and it represent competition to their business who are complying with the laws. This is near the location where another individual placed a kiosk under the previous administration, that was removed after public complaint.

The owner of Prisma golf rental agency, Rene Contreras Gomez, had not yet filed a formal complaint, saying he was still gathering the documents and items necessary to present to determine the damages done to his two vehicles in the early hours of Sunday. He estimates his losses at over 140,000 pesos for both golf carts.
He expected to file the complaint on Tuesday, if not in the upcoming hours on Monday. According to the commander of the Judicial Police, Arturo Medina, Sr. Contreras did not file an official complaint when his first vehicle was pushed over the cliff in August, but there was a reconciliation between the parties to cover the repairs, tho in reality he only made a partial recovery. At that time there were three youths involved, who said they were influenced by the video game Sueño de San Andrés”. They are targets of the preliminary investigation.
The cart that was pushed over the cliff has been hauled up and the owner is attempting to order parts from his supplier in the USA, where he obtained his consignment of units, so that they can repair it themselves. The other vehicle was burned completely and is a total loss.
This type of robbery was unheard of until recent years, and appears to have become worse in recent months, and there is a lack of police officers to conduct timely monitoring of all the potential trouble spots.
Need twice as many police

The alderman in charge of Public Safety (police), Abiran Fuentes, said that there is a need for 50 percent more officers, in order to address citizen complaints to provide greater vigilance in the troubled areas of town, amid repeated robberies. There are currently 90 officers, while an average of 140 are needed, he said. In private, officers admit there are not enough police to monitor Punta Sur where there have been countless thefts in broad daylight, and the Judicial Police confirmed there have been burglaries of homes of foreigners who stay seasonally. Some of the stolen objects have been processed, and arrest warrants in various cases. Among others, the brother of the ex Mayor Hugo Sanchez, Abraham Perez Sanchez, is accused of the burglary of several plasma screen TV's, and it is said that he has left the island. During his political campaign, the current mayor spolke about the need to double the number of police officers.

Ernesto Gomez Tur, brother of the late Gaspar Gomez Tur "el Mucaro", said his brother's death came in a surprising manner, and that his brother left a great legacy to hundreds of families for his stances against "repressive government and treacherous politicians who deceive the people". The activist was buried on Monday, and many family members and friends accompanied the coffin.
Ernesto, known as "Tiega" said he accompanied Mucaro to jail more than ten years ago when they were preventing the construction of a solid structure on the Posada Beach. They were accused by the family of ex Governor Jesus Martinez Ross of robbery and damages and arrested in a rapid process, recovering their liberty in several weeks, here at the island jail.
After another political protest in Chetumal, under a different Governor, he received a foot injury during a beating he received in jail, which caused him pain in cold weather. Similarly, he continued to rant about whatever issues he had against the government at the time, and did not mince his words, including about frauds regarding the neighborhood of Guadalupana, which is currently in the process of regularization.
