The Mayor inaugurated the city government's new program "Illuminate Isla Mueres" in colonia Meteorologica, to change bulbs and maintain streetlights in all the public areas of Isla Mujeres, which will improve security in the various colonias. The Public Services agency has made a preliminary analysis to assess which fixtures are not working, and expect to have them fully operational within about two weeks. In recent days the new mayor has given the green light to several Public Services programs including street sweeping, cleaning up the colonias, emptying the Trash Transfer Facility, and patching the streets.

Smooth sailing for golf cart rental agencies

Although October is considered a slow month for the tourism industry, in Isla Mujeres there is a growing demand for golf cart rentals. This is considered one of the best ways to get to know the island. They are available for 180 pesos an hour, 500 pesos a day or 600 pesos for 24 hours, which can be increased by as much as 20 to 30 percent by opportunists, said one of the vendors. The popularity of the golf carts has a negative economic impact on the taxi drivers.

October Events

.In October there are occasional releases of baby turtles that were incubated at the Tortugranja, at dusk on the eastern beaches of Media Luna or Guadalupana.
