Nearly two and a half months after the process began for the registration and change over of vehicle license plates, the process of delivery began on Monday at the Office of Revenue Collection of the State for those who have paid the fee. The head of the office in Isla Mujeres, Jesus Contreras Gomes, said the delivery of the plates began today for private service vehicles; specifically for cars, buses, vehicles for people with disabilities, and private remolque (trailers?).
He explained that the plates for motorcycles, which are in high demand on the island, have not yet arrived, but are expected to arrive soon in the next shipment of plates. He said they also don't have license plates for the golf carts of various agencies. Although some vehicles have not received their plates, the office continues to ask owners to comply with payment for this right, with the intention that they can count on the discount, which continues until the last day of March.
Regarding the delivery of plates, he said it will be easier after the incentive program is over, since they only need to come in with their old plate and have it changed, if they have already done all of the process. He also encouraged taxpayers who have paid this tax to come pick up their plates, specifically for private service vehicles.
He pointed out that the cost is still 686 pesos for cars and 229 pesos for motorcycles, as long as they are current on their payments.

Juan Carrillo Soberanis: Committed to having a safe municipality
With the purpose of continuing to provide security to the inhabitants of Isla Mujeres, both in the Continental Zone and on the Island, the municipal government headed by Juan Carrillo Soberanis works in coordination with the Department of Public Security and Municipal Transit Authority (police department) with preventive programs.
"One of the commitments that we have made and are fulfilling is to keep Isla Mujeres as a safe municipality for all its inhabitants and for those who visit every day, which is why the Department of Public Safety and Traffic carries out accident prevention and other operations, "said the mayor.

"These actions undoubtedly cause annoyance among some people, so we will be vigilant that they do not violate their civil and human rights and provide quality services to citizens and tourists. Our main objective is to prevent accidents and protect all islanders, "said the municipal president.
The mayor noted that as part of these actions to prevent accidents and during various operations, the Security and Traffic Department has provided relief services in minor mishaps, applied violations when the occasion has warranted and arrested people for disturbing the peace.
On another topic, Juan Carrillo Soberanis, in response to the citizen's demands in public transport, reported that the company Ultramar will put into operation one more boat to facilitate the flow of passenger traffic in the maritime transport service.

Authorization of 144 golf carts is in process
En proceso de autorizar 144 carros de golf. [+] Ver masFull article at this link

Official sources confirmed that the office in Isla Mujeres of SINTRA (Secretary of Infrastructure and Transport) has 768 golf carts registered belonging to 24 rental agencies, and is in the process of authorizing 144 more. (That's an increase of ~19%). This doesn't include at least 100 golf carts that are reportedly leased by vacation home owners. All this is creating chaos and disorder on the public roads, which the Transit police cannot cure.
As Por Esto has reported, several agencies have used fake plates to rent their services to tourists, now that marketing has extended to the internet, but SINTRA has only applied three sanctions, according to reports, and allegations of complicity have been made concerning personnel with this department and with the Transit department.
These vehicles, which were meant for use on golf courses, are invading the areas for loading and unloading of passengers; they they are parked in a row along Rueda Medina to be offered for rent, when there are only supposed to two allowed, in front of their authorized addresses.
Por Esto reported in January that almost 200 new golf cart authorizations (placas) were delivered at the end of the state administration, of which a large number achieved the final processing. The number of rental agencies increased in an unusual manner from  19 to 24, and with 144 vehicles in process joining the 769 already registered, that will tentatively bring the total to 912. This doesn't include the more than 100 golf carts of vacation homes, one of which has a fleet of eight units, without any permissions, which could be ascertained, reportedly.

Influences
Among the five new rental agencies is Fortuna, whose owner is former Mayor & member of the PAN party, Hugo Sanchez Montalvo. He was already sanctioned for operating outside the authorized building and continues to cause problems by placing their units on the crowded street, which is also done by the vast majority of rental agencies. Like Sr. Sanchez Montalvo, several former mayors have benefited from (increases of) concessions directly or indirectly, including Jesús Contreras, Jorge Cárdenas, and Paulino Adame, and their relatives. They have benefited a great deal, but have not attended to the social problems for which they have responsibility.

Decreased demand for boat tours [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Baja demanda de tours marítimos
The five cooperatives that provide boat tours report that less than half of their fleet of about 100 small boats are being used during this winter season, because of lack of demand. Members of the cooperatives; La “Adolfo López Mateos”, “Isla Mujeres”, “Isla Bonita”, “Un Día Perfecto” and “Boteros Libres” say their boats are often in port, unlike the dozen or so dive shops who are their main competitors. They acknowledge that sales online by the dive shops are making a difference in the 'commercial game'. The dives shops have online marketing and make advanced contracts with customers, while the lanchero boatmen are still trying to sell trips as people arrive at the docks. They are hoping that business will increase during the Easter holidays. It has also been suggested that some of their boats and equipment are in need of updating.
