"Operation Backpack" at campus of the Continental Zone
Nothing was found during a review of backpacks yesterday morning as students entered the middle school in the Continental zone. The action was carried out with the knowledge and approval of all the parents, and with the support of the Attorney General's office (PGR-Procuraduría General de la República) and the Human Rights agency. The operation took place because a few days ago a 15 year old student "LCM" was found to be in possession of a dry herb that appeared to be marijuana. The student was turned over to the disposition of the Special Prosecutor for Drugs Fiscalía Especializada en Narcomenudeo for appropriate action.
Por Esto has the same information, adding that the student who was arrested was in possession of three marijuana cigarettes, and that anonymous reports can be made to 066 or 089 regarding any suspicious or dangerous activity near the middle school. It is noted that the justification for this type of intervention is to ensure the welfare and tranquility of the students and their families, and to promote awareness of the dangers of carrying any kind of weapon or illegal substance which could jeopardize the safety of the students, teachers, or administrators of educational institutions.

Here is last year's description of the Aguathon...which is open to all ages & genders. This year they said the swim is a round trip and didn't mention a sprint on the beach.
Saturday was a day of sports activities around the island in celebration of Navy Day. It began at 8am with an acuatlón /Aguathon in which ~30 swimmers participated and the winning duo was Félix Lincona Cruz & Andrés Argüelles. The event began with a footrace of 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) that started at the Monument to the Fishermen (by Jax at the north end of main street), which was followed by a swimming competition of 250 meters, and completed with a sprint down the beach of 250 meters, which the winning pair completed in just under 20 minutes.
There were 16 competitors in the tennis tournament, which was won by Tony Vince and Owen Magaña. The chess tournament drew 63 competitors, of which 35 were children playing in the Junior category.
The times for the volleyball game & the Aguathon were not given in the DQR article.

Sunrise this morning from MVC B&B
Didn't photograph it today...the heavy clouds on horizon were blocking it rather than adding to it. The ocean and winds are fairly calm, sky is overcast & it's humid and cooler, as though it may rain at some point, maybe. Here's Capt. Tony Garcia photo of sunrise this morn...
