Proposal to shorten the whale shark season
Cobra fuerza la propuesta entre los permisionarios
At the recent meeting between the whale shark permit holders and SEMARNAT (Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources) about the new requirement for propeller protectors, officials proposed that the tour season be shortened by a month and a half. There are fewer whale sharks at the start of the season, and they are subject to stress when outnumbered by many boats. Last year, as usual, the season was May 15 to September 17. It has been proposed that it begin on July 1st, with mixed response among the permit holders.
At the height of the season, about 400 whale sharks can be seen 25 miles north of Isla Mujeres, and the 230 permit holders are from the municipalities of Isla Mujeres and Lazaro Cardenas (Holbox).
Many visitors to the island
Muy visitada la isla
Many tourists visited the island on Sunday, which is expected to continue, with marinas in Cancun who provide recreational services to the isle reporting many reservations for the remainder of the month. Large numbers of tourists rented golf carts, visited the beaches, participated in nautical and underwater activities and enjoyed the many attractions of this vacation destination.Service from the cable company hasn't improved
No mejora el servicio de televisiĆ³n por cable
Complaints continue about the service and of the cable company "Wizz" which was Cablemas, then Izzy, including Ms Pia Fernandez, who wants a stronger signal at her home in Punta Sur. They want PROFECO (Federal Consumer Protection Agency) to intervene, and there have also been complaints about the attitudes of some of the employees.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In February, generally the temperatures are very pleasant, but weather for this month includes "nortes", fronts from the north whose winds often cause small boats to be restricted to port, and they may bring clouds, rain, and cooler temps. They cause the lobster to come out of their hiding places and move south across the seabed, increasing the catches of the fishermen.
Fishermen in this region are banned from catching Grouper and Octopus in February (and March). Lobster season ends after Feb. 28th (Lobsters kept in captivity continue to be available). LINK
