PROFECO will open a module to take complaints about Telcel and Telmex service LINK
On Tuesday, the Federal Consumer Protection agency will set up a module in the kiosk in colonia La Gloria from 10a to 1p to take complaints against Telcel and Telmex, in response to many customers reporting poor reception and quality of calls in recent weeks, without resolution of the problem. The company hasn't issued a statement about the issue. Councilman Edgar Gasca has proposed making a class action complaint against Telcel and Telmex.

Former Mayor Jorge Cardenas was detained by officers with the Prosecutor's office concerning an old dispute in the Federal Zone LINK
Agents from the Cancun Prosecutors office arrested former Mayor Jorge Cardenas on warrant from an old dispute from 2014 over s section of North Beach Federal Zone, with Carlo Raul Cervera Peraza, owner of the restaurant-bar "Chichis".
The arrest was made in the morning by two agents who traveled in taxis, located the former Mayor, and took him to the offices of the local prosecutor. He was there making his statement until shortly after 10am, when he was transferred to the municipal police station.
The case concerns a concession issued by SEMARNAT in 2002 involving 2600 square meters of beach granted to Carlos Raul Cervera Peraza, which is also claimed by former Mayor Jorge Cardenas Bazan.
As a result of this disagreement, a violent occupation of the area took place one night, which has gone to the courts for damages and to address other crimes. The former Mayor claims to be the owner of the Federal Zone, however Mr. Cervera also claims it, and now complains of being evicted. On Friday, Mr Cardenas said he has legal possession of the Federal Zone that is being litigated, and it is Mr Cervera who is trying to evict him.

There was a Health Fair at the Community Hospital on Friday

A tourist lost her balance and nearly fell off the walkway at Punta Sur, where the railings have deteriorated. The firefighters of Civil Protection arrived with ladders on their shoulders, because it had initially been reported that "Maria N." had fallen over the cliff, which is more than 10 meters above a rocky area. However, she had not, and the Red Cross paramedics transported her on the gurney, after convincing her that she should go to the hospital to ensure that there was no significant injury to her ankles. It is noted that her injuries appeared to be mild, and officials need to attend to those barriers. Video (of her being taken to the ambulance on a gurney)

On Friday at 7am, agents with the Cancun Prosecutor's office arrested former Isla Mujeres Mayor Jorge Cardenas and took him to the local Prosecutor's office. Around 10am, he was transferred to the municipal jail.
Entrepreneur Carlos Cervera, aka "Chichis" filed a complaint against him in 2016 for dispossession and theft after his two palapas on North Beach were burned. Mr. Cervera presented documents indicating he holds the concession to this area, which the former Mayor claims belongs to him.
Mr. Cervera accused Mr. Cardenas of hiring people to carry out the destruction of his property in the wee hours of the morning in March 2014. (sic It was 2015).  Mr Cardenas denies these accusations and claims to be the real owner of the property of about 600 square meters. It is noted that three years ago the former Mayor was also arrested in a public property dispute with former Governor Borge.

Several specialists were available, and the state health official admitted it has been difficult to hire specialists, and they are still working on it. In addition to similar information found in the articles above, this one notes Mr. Cardenas regained his freedom the following day. He has been accused by Carlos Cervera "Chichis" of the crimes of theft, dispossession and malicious damage, in a case concerning the burning of two palapas owned by Mr. Cervera. They are located on a property of about 600 square meters (at that time) on North Beach, whose concession is being disputed by the two entrepreneurs. Mr. Cervera has shown the media a document from SEMARNAT that indicates the concession is his. Mr Cardenas claims it belongs to him, but has not shown documents to the press.
Mr Cardenas is accused of hiring men to destroy the palapas in the wee hours of the night and to take possession of the property. Mr Cervera has taken legal action to regain his entire concession, and is asking that damages be paid. He was at his business yesterday morning and said he remains hopeful that this is the end of the process and he will recover his property. The Prosecutor's agents declined to comment on the case, and confirmed that it is being handled by the Cancun office.

Foreign woman nearly fell at Punta Sur cliffs

Extranjera a punto de caer al acantilado

A foreign woman in her 40's stumbled and injured one of her ankles when she lost her balance on a pathway at Punta Sur. Civil Protection and Red Cross were called because at first it was thought that the accident was more serious, and that she had fallen over the cliff onto rocks, but that was false. The damage to one of her ankles was mild and the paramedics took her for a medical evaluation.  It is noted that the railings are urgently in need of repair because the wood is ten years old and has been falling apart for the past three years.

In February, generally the temperatures are very pleasant, but weather for this month includes "nortes", fronts from the north whose winds often cause small boats to be restricted to port, and they may bring clouds, rain, and cooler temps.  They cause the lobster to come out of their hiding places and move south across the seabed, increasing the catches of the fishermen

Fishermen in this region are banned from catching Grouper and Octopus in February (and March). Lobster season ends after Feb. 28th (Lobsters kept in captivity continue to be available).  LINK
