Compliance was met with all the international guidelines, standards and required criteria. The designation was awarded on June 11, at the XII National Meeting of Clean Beaches in Bahia de Banderas on the Riviera de Nayarit. The final inspection was made on April 5th by the PRONATURA company, and some minimal corrections were made.
It is noted that there are 35 beaches in the Blue Flag registry, and two marinas, one of which is located in the Isla Mujeres Continental Zone. It has been proposed that an application be made for North Beach, which has received the White Flag designation. An application has already been made for Playa Centro for next year.

The Director of the Institute of Culture and Arts, Ruben Perez Martin, and the General Secretary of the City, Antonio Coronado Rojas presented the performers with certificated of recognition and appreciation for their participation.

Successful promotional work
The Mayor, Juan Carrillo Soberanis said his administration is committed to carrying out promotional work which has made Isla Mujeres one of the most important beach destinations in Mexico, both for its natural attractions and for its high level of security and quality of service, which are the result of the coordinated work of different municipal agencies and local entrepreneurs.
He said, "In this administration we are committed to work at the promotion of this destination, because we know that tourism is the main activity and source of income for many families in the municipality. We will continue to carry out work to ensure the arrival of more visitors for the benefit of the island's citizens."
As a result of the coordinated work between the three levels of government and local entrepreneurs, this past weekend there was a significant increase in the influx of visitors, which resulted in greater economic benefits.
Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis said that this destination will continue to have positive numbers during the summer vacation period, while the actions aimed at promotion, security and cleanliness of the municipality will continue to be carried out, with the support of the community, to ensure a successful summer.

Lack of commitment for fishermen's cabins
http://www.tvislamujeres.com.mx/desinteres-de-pescadores-p…/
Although the lobster season officially started  July 1st, there is still a delay in the construction of the fishermen's huts at the fishing camp in Contoy.  The bad weather, a lack of materials (lumber) and the lack of cooperation on the part of some of the fishing cooperative has led to the project being delayed by 15 days.
The President of the Federation of Fishing Cooperatives of the State of Quintana Roo and representative of the fishermen of Isla Mujeres, Baltazar Gómez Catzín, said that there is no commitment on the part of some representatives of the local cooperatives, to encourage the construction of the cabins. So far only two cabins have been built, out of the five that were planned.
He said the two huts that have been built belong to the fishermen of the fishing cooperatives“Por la Justicia Social”  and "Patria y Progreso", thanks to the collaboration of their members with the transfer of the wood from Isla Mujeres to Isla Contóy.
He said, on the other hand, it was not possible to make progress in the huts of the fishing cooperative "Isla Blanca", "Caribe", and "Laguna Makáx", because they are not cooperating with the transfer of construction material for the cabins, consisting of lumber.

Firefighters respond to a fire in colonia Cañotal

A small home made from plywood caught fire on Sunday, shortly before 10am. Neighbors alerted the authorities and firefighters rushed to the location. They arrived in a timely manner, but the little house had already been reduced to ashes. It belonged to the caretaker of the property, who was not inside when the fire occurred, which is thought to have originated as a result of some candles that were left burning. The firefighters removed the pieces of wood that were still burning and doused them with water, thanks to the pumps.

Increasing measures for tourism promotion
Reforzarán medidas de promoción turística. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Following the recent session of evaluation by the Municipal Pueblo Magico Committee, it was agreed to reinforce measures to retain this designation in Isla Mujeres, and reaffirm our town's leadership, by complying with the requirements. Among those pending it the issue of application of the Animal Welfare Regulation which recently became official with its publication. Last week, the director of Ecology, Jose Gonzalez,  said that by the middle of this month, the entire protocol would be announced to the Citizen's Council, to proceed during the second half of July with a population census of pets, and then they would know more about the situation they are facing.
The collection of some 9 million pesos owed by the neighboring municipality of Benito Juarez (Cancun) is also expected, which is owed under an agreement for use of municipal land for the regional landfill. They haven't paid the monthly fee of 200,000 pesos since 2013. This money would be invested into equipment to meet the problem of cleaning out and transferring all the garbage from the Trash Transfer facility at the southern part of the island.
The hundreds of dogs and cats that copulate in the main streets of the colonias should begin to be under control by the end of the summer, once that regulation is applied, where owners no longer may leave their pets in the public streets.
There is also criticism concerning conservation of the environment associated with cutting of mangroves and a lack of awareness about the importance of keeping the lagoon clean, where tourists and boats visit, such as the Makax lagoon.
The beaches are in exceptional condition, and the erosion at Playa Sol, which is part of North Beach, has recovered quickly since three wooden levees were constructed. The area where tens of thousands of tourists will visit every week has a new image.
The rest of the information in this article has already been translated about the City's commitment to promotion and to retaining its designation as a Pueblo Magico.

Fishermen with all five cooperatives, “Caribe”, “Patria y Progreso”, “Justicia Social”, “Isla Blanca” and “Makax” were busy with the start of lobster season on Saturday. No statistics were provided about their catches, which were described as "regular".  The season will continue through February, and they will be using their nets, traps, and scuba equipment to catch the crustaceans. (They also dive with spears and use hoses from air compressors.)
The information about the Contoy fishing huts is translated in the TVIM section.

Hoteliers want accounting of Hotel Tax
Piden transparentar impuesto al hospedaje.. [+] Ver masFull article at this link

The  number of hotel rooms on the mainland area of Isla Mujeres is doubling by the end of this year, this will also increase the amount of Hotel Tax (IAH Impuesto al Hospedaje), which is estimated at 20 million pesos. This would mean having 20 percent more money to invest in tourism infrastructure in 2018. Hoteliers of Isla Mujeers want to know how this money is being spent by the OVC (Cancun Office of Visitors and Conventions).
At present, Isla Mujeres has 4,884 hotel rooms, of which 2,371 are at Punta Sam (on the mainland). However, several luxury hotels are being built and expanded in this part of the municipality, for a total of 3599 rooms which should be ready by the end of this summer. (That means there are ~2513 hotel rooms on the island.)
In 2013, the Isla Mujeres municipal Tourism Promotional agency (Fideicomiso de Promoción) was absorbed into the OVC, in accordance with a decision by then Governor Borge. At that time, the collected IAH tax was around 10 million pesos. However, since that time, the number of hotel rooms has grown 30% , with a spectacular increase occurring at Punta Sam in 2017. Therefore, hoteliers estimate the collection will be around 20 million pesos yearly. This amount should increase in the next three decades because there are plans to build about 30,000 hotel rooms in the Punta Sam-Isla Blanca area. Therefore, entrepreneurs want full autonomy in the management of this resource, and they want transparency from the government, including an accounting from the time of the previous administration.
