The head of Sanitary Jurisdiction number 2, Homero León Pérez, said that although the Community Hospital has  new X-ray equipment, a technician has not been hired to operate it. He said it has not been possible to provide this service for approximately three months, and they have been sending patients to the Cancun General Hospital, which incurs extra expense and inconvenience.
He said the contract has already been drawn up and they are just waiting for a confirmation and signature from the technician so that it can be sent to the Isla Mujeres Community Hospital.

He concluded by saying that if everything goes well, starting next July 16 there will be qualified personnel who will start operating the radiology equipment at the Community Hospital for the benefit of patients who have been complaining about the lack of this service.

Payment is still pending from Benito Juarez municipality (Cancun) for use of the landfill property, which is located in the municipality of Isla Mujeres. The debt is just over seven million pesos, and not 12 million as was previously reported. The mayor said this payment is required by law and would help solve problems associated with trash removal.  He said he will continue to press for a dialogue, but if there is no response in upcoming days, they will begin legal action.

Strychnine caused animal  deaths
http://www.tvislamujeres.com.mx/confirman-el-uso-de-la-est…/
- The veterinarian, Delfino Guevara confirmed Wednesday that the substance found in one of the bodies of animals poisoned last weekend, was strychnine, which is easy to obtain at hardware stores in Cancun. It was put into meat and causes almost immediate symptoms when eaten. Official information indicates there were three dogs and five cats poisoned, but there are unofficial reports of more.  He said that although the animals are not guilty of the problem that exists in the streets of Isla Mujeres, the owners of the pets are irresponsible and to this day there has been no real sanctions.
He said this doesn't justify the poisoning of animals, but doesn't rule out that it is a reaction of someone who is annoyed about the apathy toward solving the stray animal problem.
He said it is a fact that poisoning animals is not new in Isla Mujeres, because throughout his 18 years of career in Isla Mujeres, he has seen several cases. He said, "Formerly it was a usual practice and curiously occurred before the start of the high seasons of tourism, cyclically, every year, apparently to try to contain the image problem." The veterinarian said that no one should take justice into their own hands and stressed that now there are public agencies are required to resolve these types of acts against animals.
The veterinarian said that it is important that the City invests in infrastructure and qualified personnel to be able to address the problem that it now faces  and then be able to put into effect the regulation that has already been approved and published

Injury in taxi-scooter accident
Taxi contra moto; una lesionada [+] Ver masFull article at this link
July 6   This morning a taxi hit a scooter, causing an injury to the driver, at her right knee, which was bleeding. It occurred around 7am in colonia Salina Chica near the primary school Cesar Mendoza, when the taxi was going from north to south and the scooter was going in the opposite direction. Wet pavement while braking may have been a contributing cause. It is noted that taxi drivers don't always respect the speed limit in areas where it is 20kph, such as at this location. It was decided to take both vehicles to the impound yard while determining the responsibilities between the parties.

Soapy water drained into the mangroves

On Thursday afternoon, soapy water was spilled  near the statue of Ramon Bravo, (which is at the entrance to Sac Bajo) and traces could be seen on the road to Garrafon and the sidewalk. It is presumed that it drained into the nearby mangroves. It is near the Palace hotel, but who caused it is unknown. The head of Civil Protection denied that they fought any Africanized bees in that area, which was theorized since soapy water is used for that purpose. The use of soapy water on public roads is also a bad habit of some families, after they wash their clothes or floors, which is tolerated, although it is prohibited.

July 6   Swimmers allegedly broke the buoy line by Playa Centro, aka the Posada Beach, at noon when crossing it to enter the boat navigation area. The Director of Civil Protection said he gave instructions to his staff to repair it, to ensure the safety of the swimmers.      There is an area where previously eroded beach has been regained, and now the buoys are closer to shore, and it is more common for swimmers to go over them, despite warnings from the lifeguards.

Belizean apprehended for burglary

A Belizean, A.E.A., (sic his visa in the photo says his name is Amado Edward Gonzalez  46, was arrested, jailed, and made available to the Public Prosecutor's office (Ministerio Publico de Fuero Comun) for alleged burglary to a home. The police were called on Wednesday at 9:30pm by US citizen C.P., 55, who said he was the owner of the house, which is located on Martinez Ross Avenue. Police unit 6022 came to the scene with two support officers and the homeowner told them he had entered moments before and noticed the presence of a stranger inside, who he managed to detain. The thief had attempted to flee in a VW Jetta (license plate 6414TRS), after taking two credit cards from a wallet. TVIM notes he is ex military and entered Mexico as a tourist.
The rapid response by the police was possible because the municipal government now has more patrols and vehicles which allows them to respond to emergency calls from residents in the shortest possible time. Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis said he is committed to working 24 hours a day for the welfare of families and congratulated the officer for acting quickly.

Collaboration from the community is important

Es importante la colaboración ciudadana.. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
The participation of groups against animal abuse in the next application of the Animal Welfare and Care Regulation will be vital to achieve the desired success of the program to stop the attack on pets in public roads, said José González, deputy director of Ecology, who is in charge of drafting the protocol to be submitted in a few days to the Citizens Council.
He thanked the residents for their cooperation in reacting to the death of eight cats and dogs from poisoning in the colonias of Canotal and Miraflores, which was allegedly done by people on a motorcycle. There was widespread outrage and condemnation, and advice to care for your pets and not let them go outside. It was also decided to require businesses to record the names and information of people who buy these types of poison. If they find the culprits, they will be prosecuted according to the laws, and the investigation is ongoing.
There is a plan to take a census of the cat and dog population, and register the animals according to their addresses in each colonia, including their lot, block and street, which will require the cooperation of the community.

Summer Operation for security & safety
Alistan el Operativo de VeranoVer masFull article at this link
The Director of Public Safety and Traffic, Jaime Ongay Ortiz, reported that the Summer Operation is ready to safeguard the lives of tourists and islanders during the holiday season, which officials predict will be busier than last year.
Among the measures that have been installed so far this season is the breathalyzer program, whose results have been effective, and accidents due to the effects of driving under the effects of alcohol have been reduced by 80 to 90 percent, he said.

He said they continue to work in coordination with other municipal, state, and federal agencies to achieve a good result during the holiday season. Forty vehicles will be available to meet the needs of the population and visitors, and will be patrolling in the area where there are the largest numbers of tourists.

There were accidents where a golf cart rolled over on Monday and on Tuesday, because they are driven by inexperienced people, who often do not take precautions and who could benefit from more information from the rental agencies. He said it is accepted that the number of vehicles increases ~300% during the tourist season, and asked the support of the community to do everything possible to avoid accidents.
