During the event, the City General Secretary, Joel Saury Galué, who was representing the Mayor, invited the attendees to raise awareness about environmental problems and join in the activities that the City carries out to improve the environment.
The Director of Ecology and Environment, Carlos Barranco Garcia, thanked the support of different organizations, agencies, and companies such as the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Aguakán, the Isla Mujeres high school Colegio de Bachilleres, and the National Commission of  Protected Natural Areas (CONANP) for carrying out the Second Environmental Fair.
The official said, "In municipal government we are concerned about the environment, but above all we deal with the problems that can be generated, so we carry out various events that serve to raise awareness and educate all the islanders about the care and preservation of natural resources in our municipality."
Through these actions, the City of Isla Mujeres reaffirms its interest in helping to take measures and actions that help improve the environment and create awareness in the next generation about the importance of conservation.

The official opening of the newly renovated downtown basketball court ("Jose del Carmen Pastrana") took place on Monday at 7pm. The work was done with 1.3 million pesos in municipal funds. (~$73,000usd)
The work was carried out via the municipal Public Works Department with an investment of municipal funds of 1.3 million pesos. Rescheduled meeting betweein CONANP & whale shark licensees
The meeting was rescheduled for Tuesday between officials with CONANP  (National Commission of Protected Natural Areas) and the whale shark permit licensees who are concerned about the permits that have not yet been renewed. The permit holders say more than half of the permits haven't been received.
One of the permit holders said,  "I have three boats, and I've spent six years dedicating myself to this, yet now they tell me that because of a monopoly, they are only going to give me one, which seems ridiculous to me when there are other people who have more than 10 authorized permits, so I don't know what monopoly they are talking about. "

Señora Elsa M. Cauich Huchim has filed a legal complaint following the fire that occurred at a property which is involved in a legal dispute over invasion of public space, and other issues, including ownership. The business was closed by municipal order five years ago, as a result of the ongoing legal issues.
She said the City has intentions to take possession of the property, and says remnants of clothes and gasoline were found in the property following the fire in the predawn hours of June 4th. She is making accusations that the fire was provoked by municipal staff. Her complaint names an official with the Firefighters department, alleging that she is not neutral on this issue.
