ISLA MUJERES, 7 de agosto.-
This article is about land donations from private individuals for the development of projects on the mainland area of the municipality of Isla Mujeres. Here is a map from Wiki showing the municipality of Isla Mujeres., consisting of 400 square miles, while the isle is probably less than three square miles. I mostly stick to translating news about the island.

Could be alternative vehicles for tourism
ECONOMÍA
Podrán ser los motocarros alternativa para el turismo
0 08 de agosto de 2015 By Carlos Gasca
The rental agency “Joaquín” has acquired five of these "motocarros" , which have three wheels and can carry three people, including the driver. They have a maximum speed of 45 kilometers an hour, and are driven with handlebars that have a clutch on the left handle. They have striking, alluring paint jobs with whale sharks and other marine animals. However, the processing of their usage permits is still pending, and yesterday a group of taxi drivers gathered in front of the Collector of Revenue offices, where the permits are issued. The rental agency is owned by Joaquin Ricalde, father of the former mayor of Cancun, Julian Ricalde, who wants to renovate his fleet of motorcycles, but now has decided to get into the business of motocarros. The new vehicles would be replacing old scooters, which are included in the family's concession. This substitution of a two wheeled motorcycle for a vehicle with three wheels is making some of the taxi drivers uncomfortable, who see them as competition. The leader of the taxi union has not issued an official statement concerning the taxistas gathering outside the governmental building and their objections, nor about the new rental agency at the Club Playa Pescador.

Signatures for consumer complaint to PROFEPA
Firmas para demandar en la Profepa[+] Ver mas
The protesters who objected to the destruction of protected plants during the clearing of a property, located near the gas station by the runway, are collecting signatures to file a complaint with PROFEPA. The property is allegedly owned by Manuel Jesus Mendoza Vidal, who is a brother in law of former mayor Paulino Adame. There have been allegations of fraud against the former mayor over thousands of residential and commercial lots.
The property is located on Circumvalacion Aeropuerto in colonia Rancho Alegre, with a fence at the edge of the property of the gas station. During the clearing of the land inside the fence, allegedly several clumps of mangrove, chit palms, and other plants have been removed. There is no authorization posted from SEMARNAT (Department of Environment and Natural Resources), and therefore the protestors are going to seek intervention by PROFEPA (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection.)
The signatures are being collected by Luis Isidro Venegas and Ernesto Gómez Tur. Attorney Roberto Martinez Aragon said when enough signatures have been gathered, they will proceed with an environmental damage lawsuit, before PROFEPA, against those responsible. They are using social networks to promote the complaint.
Sr Martinez explained that Office of Cadastre (Deeds) issued an order for occupation on April 23 2002 to Manuel Jesus Mendoza Vidal, brother in law of Paulino Adame, giving possession of the lot, for use exclusively for the construction of a residence. The lawyer said, "The document specifies that the possessor is obliged to start construction within a period of two months from delivery of the order and to inhabit within six months, which does not correspond to reality, because more than 13 years have passed ".
Mangrove plants were also allegedly destroyed for the construction of the taxi stand in Sac Bajo, allegedly without federal permits, and several square meters of mangroves were allegedly cleared recently near the beach club El Pescador, allegedly to build a dirt road for the golf cart concession the company recently gained.
This group of citizens wants the municipal government and the Municipal Department of Ecology to intervene, and they say if the officials won't take act, they will take action against the officials.

La Armada reporta saldo blanco[+] Ver mas
The commanding officer of the Naval patrols and first aid station on North Beach said there is nothing new to report and everything is very peaceful.
The Chief of Police, Joaquín Poot Acosta, explained that the most recent arrest was Luis Adolfo Gallegos Lara, 30, of Chiapas, who was presented to the Public Ministry to be charged with theft of a cell phone. He allegedly was drunk and went to his employers home in Chica Salina, asking to use his cell phone, and left with the device. The owner called the police, who caught him nearby, and he admitted his problem and was turned over to the MP to initiate legal proceedings.
Other personnel providing safety and security, including the lifeguards and the tourist police, report there are no problems .
Ecology Department warns dog owner
Ecología amonesta a dueña de perro [+] Ver mas
The Department of Ecology issued a warning to the owner of the golden dog "Canelo" for allowing the animal to roam in the streets. The owners said the dog is meek, but does not get along with a neighbor's dog, and barks when they are near each other. This has caused fear, especially after there was an attempted attack between them on Guerrero Avenue, where the two families live.
The owner, Lucy Gonzalez Perez, is the wife of Juan Martinez Magana, and they live at the Carmelina Hotel. She explained that the dog is six years old and has been her pet since it was small. She said, "He is gentle, friendly with tourists and local people, and not aggressive." The dog visits the veterinarian Delfino Guevara Collazo regularly for health care.
On August 6, at 10am, Sra. Gonzalez Perez signed an agreement to keep "Canelo" tied up and to take him out on a leash, and to comply with regulations for the dog to always have a collar, identification and registration number; to be on a leash and accompanied by a person when in public; and to provide the animal with preventative care of vaccines and dewormer. She agreed to take a photo of the dog for the official copy of the document. Her husband said he plans to take the dog to the southern part of the island to swim every day, and explained the dog frequently swims at Media Luna beach, early in the morning.
It is a common problem on the island that there are many dogs in the streets, which is more common in the colonias, as has been reported in this newspaper.
