There are plans to move the Hyperbaric Chamber to the new hospital, which is scheduled to open in three weeks, but they will leave the chamber downtown until the end of lobster season. With several fishermen being treated for decompression weekly, this would be a very risky time to have it out of operation, so they plan to wait until the lobster season is over at the end of February, said the president of the Federation of Fishing Cooperatives in Quintana Roo, Baltazar Gómez Catzín.
The Chamber is not only used for treatment of decompression from diving, but also for conditions such as 'diabetic foot'.

Families spent Friday at the beach
Viernes familiar playero.. [+] Ver mas

There were many visitors to the beaches of Isla Mujeres on Friday, including in the afternoon when it was cloudy and the sun was not so strong. Security operations report that there were no incidents, dive shops report they are operating at full capacity, while boat tours say they are at half capacity but doing much better than in the past. Popular dive sites include the Underwater Sculpture Museum (MUSA) the Cross in the Bay, and the 'moles' installed in the coral reef zone of Sac Bajo (I think this means the artificial reef). The whale shark tours are going smoothly with 45 more days to the season for viewing and swimming with the largest fish in the world.
The ferries and other boats that transport tourists to the island are intensely busy through the afternoon with officials estimating that 90 percent of the tourists in Isla Mujeres come directly from Cancun. The fishermen report that their products are in demand, with a high rate of consumption of fish and lobster, but they have suffered high rates of decompression illness among the divers, which is acknowledged by the members and managers of the fishing cooperatives: Caribe, Patria & Progreso, Justicia Social, Isla Blanca, and Makax. The restaurants and snack bars are doing well. The Director of Tourism, Gustavo Rodriguez Orozco, said there are massive amounts of tourists arriving to our beaches which are free of seaweed.

Saying the hospital will be open in August
Dicen que ahora sí a nuevo hospital.. [+] Ver mas
The Director of Health in Quintana Roo said the new hospital will open in the second half of August. The opening had been planned for June but was postponed until the final equiping of the facility is completed. The Official said the construction will be completed in a matter of days, and then there will be installation of equipment and the Governor should cut the opening ribbon in three weeks.
It is recalled that originally there were plans for the hospital to open in 2010, but there was a lack of resources, and different dates were given over the years. In 2015, there were plans for it to open in March, then in June.
Sr. Ortegon said the construction and equipping of the hospital involved 106 million pesos. The fact sheet indicates it will have 13 beds, areas for emergency care, trauma area (? sala de choque) operating room, hospital area, delivery room, recovery room, sterilization area, diagnostic services with digital X ray, offices, and the hyperbaric chamber. It will also have two hemodialysis machines for people with kidney failure. There are outlets for medical oxygen, special walls for the X ray area, and facilities for ultrasounds and dental care. It has wiring for communication services, both voice and data, as well as areas for governmental offices and medical residences. (residents?  residencia médica. a dorm room?)
He estimated that in ten days they will finish the installation of equipment and begin the moving of personnel from the General Hospital to the new facilities. There will be a mural of a whale shark and a conch, done by artists Abel Ignacio Jompar Franco and Arturo Castañeda, who live in Cozumel.
