This week's events
The Carnival is in town...over along the Caribbean Coastal Road, just south of the first village (Salina Chica-Meteorologico).

There's meteor showers going on between midnight & dawn that peak July 29th, but the almost full moon, a blue moon, is interfering. It's not really blue, that just means it's the second one this month. The turtles continue to be busy nesting on our beaches & still 'gettin busy' in the currents offshore from Punta Sur. The full moon will be rising over the Carribean at sunset on Friday, and about 45 mins later each night thereafter.  Link to meteor info

Seeking a scrap dealer to take the balsero boat

Para que se hagan cargo de embarcación hechiza en la que arribaron balseros

Lanrry PARRA
ISLA MUJERES, 29 de julio.-
The Harbor Master of Isla Mujeres, Ismael Gonzalez Gil, said he does not have personnel available to dismantle the small handmade boat made of wood and aluminum, which was abandoned yesterday morning along the east coast near the FOVISSTE apartments. The containers used for storing fuel and water have been removed, and it still contains the adapted car engine, broken backpacks, and leftover food such as crackers and juices, whose packaging indicates they were made in Cuba.
The Harbor Master said his staff are busy monitoring the vessels of Isla Mujeres and Puerto Juarez that are transporting visiting tourists, in order to assure their safety. He said the dismantling and removal of the craft needs to be done this week, to avoid contamination of the area, since it is likely to break up soon. They are hoping to find a scrap dealer who will remove it, with the materials being considered as payment.

The new President of the fishing cooperative Patria & Progreso, Jaime Osorio Sanchez, said they plan to file legal complaints against the former president, Luis Fernando Mendez G Canton, who has not turned over any documentation.
Sr. Osorio Sanchez says the cooperative has debts of nearly 6000 pesos for water consumption, over 10,000 for electricity, and more than 100,000 pesos in unpaid property taxes for the past 11 years, as well as renewal of the lobster permits for 8000 pesos. They are considering two types of legal suits, one for fraud if the bank account has been emptied, and the other alleging mismanagement for fifteen years.
The cooperative continues to catch shark, lobster, and fish for marketing, with a good demand from the large numbers of tourists visiting the island. Members of the union confirmed that they are aware of what is happening and are in full support of the new Board of Directors.
