Unlike Cancun and Puerto Morelos, where their beaches have been affected by seaweed washing up; in Isla Mujeres, it is not really a the problem, because the sea currents are favorable.

Cooperative's new administration holds meeting
Desmantelan cooperativa .. [+] Ver mas
Notary Public #32 of Isla Mujeres, Jorge Carlos Magana Sanchez, said a meeting was held at 10am in the office of the cooperative "Patria and Progreso", which was ransacked on Wednesday. It was confirmed that the office had been cleaned out of all the property documents and financial statements of the union. Therefore, legal procedures were begun by the Board of Directors to determine responsibilities.
The new Board has been in office since June 29, and the new administration is having to start from 'zero'. The members of the cooperative are concerned and aware of the issues, and are asking the managers to act with prudence and determination to clarify the issues about the documents and financial statements. One member said, "If the former accountant who kept the books of the cooperative was involved or complicit, he must answer for his part in the alleged destruction."
They say that regulations of the Cooperatives Act were violated and they are seeking advice from the Federation of Fishing Cooperatives of Quintana Roo and from the National cooperatives organization, to act according to procedures. In addition the Notary, they have the well known lawyer  Jacinto Rejón Núñez as part of their team to clarify this unusual event that is detrimental to the cooperative Patria y Progreso.
Meanwhile, the cooperative continues to receive seafood including lobster, shark, and fish. According to information collected, they have an annual receipts of several million pesos from dozens of tons of each species that are sold, which is a lucrative business that they expect to sort out in the upcoming weeks.

Question for municipal government
Cuestionan al gobierno municipalntig.. [+] Ver mas

Parents want the City to replace shade for the grandstands at the soccer fields in colonia Salinas, after they were very uncomfortable during their children's game on Saturday against a team from Cancun. The old structure was dismantled a year ago, and no date has been set for its replacement, although the parents continue to ask.
They also complained about the lack of security, which allows dogs to enter and defecate on the artificial turf.  La señora Angélica N. complained about drunks coming from a bar that is ten meters from the field, saying, "They go into the bathroom and make it dirty. Now it is out of service." She said that the sport of soccer is not getting as much municipal support as basketball, with domes, or as much support as the sport of baseball.
Mirella Garcia suggested that a tarp be placed over the grandstands to solve the problem temporarily, until they are ready to complete the job. She said authorities should reflect upon their responsibility in this area to promote a better image of this place.

Campaign begins for massive capture of lion fish
Inicia campaña de captura masiva del pez león.. [+] Ver mas
A massive campaign is beginning for the capture of lionfish in the area around Isla Mujeres, in an attempt to control the invasion of this predatory species to our coral reefs. As part of the Whale Shark Festival, on Friday, July 24, at 7pm, the "Lion Fish 3rd Gastronomic Event" “III Muestra Gastronómica a Base del Pez León” will be held in the Town Square. Several restauranteurs have confirmed their participation, therefore fishermen and service providers will be capturing the required Lion Fish before, during, and after the event for the promotion of these dishes.
The Director of Tourism, Gustavo Rodriquez, said there is good demand among visitors for this delicacy, and with an adequate supply, the restauranteurs are encouraged to make this available for their diners, both locals or tourists. The municipal Ecology department invited participation in this event which is part of Whale Shark Festival 2015, and represents a way of involving restauranteurs, fishermen, cooks, and the general island population in a campaign to raise awareness.
There will be cash prizes for the top two places in two categories; B is a dish based on a Lion Fish fillet and A is a dish prepared with the whole Lion Fish (using it to the maximum). The deadline to register is Wednesday, July 22.
