Thieves take three computers from the "Little Yellow School House" in colonia La Gloria

Ladrones se llevan tres computadoras, del que se ubica en la colonia La Gloria

Lanrry PARRA
Three computers were taken from the Learning Center in colonia La Gloria, (known as The Little Yellow School House, which helps children with disabilities) early this morning. It is thought that children initially entered to take crayons, colors, notebooks and markers, but that apparently they called someone older and three white Mac type desktop computers were taken, with a CPUnit.
The chief of police, Arturo Enrique Medina Parra, said they have evidence of the people responsible, and may detain them at any moment. He added that these are unique computers that will be difficult to sell without being detected. He said that some responsibility lies with the staff because they left the door of the office unlocked, where the computers were located. When the staff left at five in the afternoon, they forgot to lock the office door, and therefore they are included in the investigation.
He said at the scene they found notebooks, colors, markers, and boxes of toothpaste that had been taken out, but it appears that the adults left all that, and took the computers. The doors were not forced, and it is believed to have involved children from the surrounding area. With the theft of the computer equipment, and the involvement of adults, the crime became aggravated robbery, said the police commander.

Tras litigio que duró tres años

Lanrry PARRA
The members of the Isla Blanca cooperative are hoping that the fence will be removed later this year or by early 2015, after an appropriate Federal judge issues a final ruling in the case of their dispossession, which began in November 2011. (see information translated yesterday)

Despistado trailero arrasa con cables en colonia Meteorológica

Lanrry PARRA
A truck driver knocked out electric lines in colonia Meteorologica and did not stop, and was intercepted by the muncipal police near the Hacienda Mundaca. The trailer truck was taken to the impound yard and the driver was taking steps to assure that the company would be responsible for the damage, because otherwise he would be arrested and put behind bars. There were lines ripped loose and the base de la mufa of one was dragged, which left several homes without power for about five hours, although the CFE was already doing repair work at 3pm.

Work has begun on prologation Rueda Medina, & they hope to finish it before the 15th of December.
The business Eagle Construction Southeast ( “Águila Constructora del Sureste”) began work yesterday on prolongation Rueda Medina, replacing pavement for 2.2 kilometers, which is expected to be completed in 60 days, although the bid is for 70 days. This would make the projected date of completion on Dec 15th or Dec 25th.
The resources come from Federal funds of Ramo 23, and the improvements are being done at a cost of 9.8 million pesos. The work starts near the terminal for the vehicle ferry and will extend to the baseball field "El Pescador".
The director of public works, Miguel Ariel Caballero García, said they are removing the pavement, leveling the base, installing new drain registers, and installing new signage. He acknowledged that his work will cause inconvenience, because the road is now closed, and explained that they are working on approaches to the ferry, which is now a priority.

A la alza la ola de robos en la ínsula

    0 17 de octubre de 2014
This has the same information as translated above, noting that a report was filed with the Agencia del Ministerio (prosecutors office), by Sra. Paula Salas Acosta and the case is under investigation. It is suspected that the property was not properly secured or locked, and therefore the locks were not violated.
Upon arrival the staff found the door was open and they immediately contacted authorities and went on social media seeking assistance with recovery of the three Apple computers that were taken. People who have any information are asked to call 9982-29-69-89.

Waiving property tax fines

At the City Council meeting (regular sessin #XXVII) two issues were addressed. One was the program for waiving fines for property tax and trash collection  which was approved, and the other concerned the Community Center on the mainland area of Isla Mujeres.  The grace period for waiving fines is November 1-30th. (I don't generally translate the mainland news).

Karen Rosenberg's
NEED DIABETES SUPPLIES FOR OCTOBER DIABETES CLINIC: We have been doing Diabetes Clinics on Isla Mujeres for five years, with more local residents participating annually. This is a joint project of bilingual social workers, nurses, and other health care professionals originally from the USA, working with Isleno community partners. Diabetes is now the primary cause of death in Mexico.
We are in great need of donations of glucometers and strips, specifically these brands: Contour, Contour Next and OneTouch. Many doctor's offices, clinics and hospitals discard strips that are almost expired. Strips are actually still effective for at least a year after expiration dates so often those are the ones that are most often donated. If you have any contact with medical professionals or pharmaceutical reps, you can often get current supplies. We can also use lancets, lancet devices, alcohol pads, and syringes.
The next clinic will be in October 2014. Contact Karen Rosenberg at kfrlisw@gmail.com or Kathy Ennis at kathy@kathyandkeith.mx or FB either of us. We accept monetary donations too and will buy strips to bring down.
