ISLA MUJERES, 09 de septiembre.- .The Police chief, Leo Ortiz Mendoza, explained that there will be security operations for the national holiday celebrations on September 15 and 16, particularly on the town square, where the traditional Grito de Independencia will take place on this 203rd anniversary. The 40 law officers and 20 traffic officers, will also be monitoring vendors and stores to prevent the sale of fireworks or the introduction of other dangers to the area. They will designate alternate routes to reduce congestion from the area of the ferry terminal to the traffic circle of the Fishermen Monument. Police will also be present before and during the parade, and are waiting to be informed if it will occur downtown on main street or in La Gloria at Paseo de las Aves, so they will know what area to cordon off.

Por Carlos Gasca > Quequi . The Benito Juarez middle school teachers in Isla Mujeres had briefly resumed teaching, but rejoined the strike on Monday, in response to new provisions (disposiciones) by the state Council. In social networks, parents are expressing support, opposition, concern, and criticism, while teachers are defending their actions. Currently, classes are suspended in practically every school campus in the municipality, except three private schools.

    Denunciarían padres ante Derechos Humanos

    0 09 de septiembre de 2013

Por Carlos Gasca >Quequi  A group of parents spoke to the reporter saying they are planning to file a complaint with the Human Rights Commission demanding that teachers fulfill their obligations and resume classes. They say some parents do not support the teachers in their struggle, and that the students have a Constitutional right to education, which is being violated. They suggest that teachers fight in their free time, without affecting the students, who are not to blame for what is happening. They  say they are barely organized but very concerned about the children falling behind. They are wondering how the lost hours will be made up, and suggesting that holidays may be cut shorter and school days may be extended.

Atebcuib a las zonas irregulares de Isla Mujeres: Borge
  • With approval of the PDU (Urban Development Plan) and the POEL (Local Ecological Program) of Benito Juarez (Cancun), the groundwork has been laid for the three levels of government to provide services and deed registry for thousands of families who live in "irregular settlements" in the municipalities of Isla Mujeres, Benito Juarez, and Solidaridad, in an area that includes ~2400 hectares, west of Cancun, on the way to Merida. The Governor explained they are trying to avoid causing damage to nature and to comply with the Governmental Green Plan, while controlling urban expansion and giving attention to housing needs, sustainability, and providing living environments of good quality.
