Accidental electrical shock to young construction worker

Se electrocuta joven albañil

Wednesday night a young construction worker received a serious electrical shock while working on the roof of a two story house in colonia Cañotal, and he accidentally touched a high tension line, causing serious burns. The Red Cross carried Juan N. down from the roof of the Parra family home, located on the road to Garrafon,  between Rayador and Gaviota streets, and transported him to the Community Hospital. After evaluating him, it was determined to urgently transport him to Cancun. It seems that the young man has no family on the island, and is employed by a contractor to carry out this type of work.
Last year there were two similar events and one was lethal, the death of a young Argentinian on the roof of a private house, on Jesus Martinez Ross Avenue, in colonia Salina Chica. The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has been asked to take action and review its power lines, especially high-voltage power lines that invade properties.

Bullying complaint at private school

Agresión dentro de la escuela

Gina Medina says her daughter was injured on Thursday morning, claiming that she was pushed by another student, and that this isn't the first time the other student has been violent with her. The incident occurred at 10am, when the students were at the Senior Citizens Park in colonia La Gloria, for PE.  Melody says Romina pushed, and she landed on the pavement, causing injuries to her nose, upper lip, left forehead, abdomen and wrist, which were photographed.
She attends fifth grade at Jean Piaget private school and her mother says the school didn't notify her, although they have two emergency numbers. She found out when she picked her daughter up at 2pm. She said the Director is aware of the incident and that the school claims her daughter fell during physical education. Her daughter and friends say Romina pushed her. The mother says it is clear these injuries weren't caused by a simple fall.
Ms. Medina says she has already gone to the school about this problem previously because this isn't the first time this girl has pushed her daughter, but she wasn't injured then.  Ms. Medina wants the school to apply its regulations, which could involve temporary or permanent expulsion of the aggressor. She has taken her complaint to the Center for Support Against Domestic Violence (CAVI).

CANACO members support new trash schedule

Respaldan nuevas reglas de limpieza urbana

The new trash schedule of five routes operating between 8p and 10p has received the approval of members of the business owners organization CANACO (Chamber of Commerce), but they say pickup for the Hidalgo route should be delayed until the early morning at 2a-3a, because the street has a great deal of nightlife, and it creates a bad image for tourism when the collectors are coming by when there are still many diners at the tables, so they propose it be delayed four hours.
Residents and businesses are asked to keep their trash inside until just before the truck passes, and not to put out trash after the truck has passed.

Mixed martial arts festival

Festival de artes marciales mixtas

On February 15 at 7pm at the Ice Bar in Sac Bajo, there will be a mixed martial arts competition featuring seven professional fights and two amateur fights, with the latter including a match between women with one representing Isla Mujeres. Tickets are on sale at a variety of businesses. There are Mexican fighters from Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Ciudad del Carmen as well as foreign fighters from countries such as Venezuela.
