There are no permits for construction at Punta Sur LINK
In response to concerns expressed over social networks, Nivardo Fernández, director of Urban Development said that there have been no permits issued for construction at the Mirador/Overlook at Punta Sur.A peaceful demonstration was promoted, for which only a few people attended. The official acknowledged that this and other properties have owners and were sold many years ago. Although the official did not confirm that this zone is subject to the PDU, (Urban Development Plan) which regulates the different zoning, and this could be considered for "protección y ornato" (lit. Protection and Ornamentation), although it would be necessary to confirm this hypothesis.

Residents are urging municipal authorities to not grant any permissions for construction on the site of the overlook by Garrafon Park. Unofficially, Municipal Urban Development has refused to authorize a construction license, however the owner of the property has not revealed his name, and could resort to a legal defense.
Former Mayor Hugo Sanchez no land use modifications for the property were made during his administration, and he suggested offering an exchange for another property in the vicinity.
According to some versions, the owner of the property may be linked with the owners of Isla 33, who intend to build a single story there, in accordance with the PDU (Urban Development Plan), to establish a snack bar, however, the people don't want a single meter of the property touched, but rather that it should be an area of 'ornato municipal'.
A few days ago there was a demonstration at the property and Mr Sanchez attended to clarify that there was nothing done in favor of someone in relation to that property during his administration. It has not been confirmed or denied that former Mayor Agapito Magana Sanchez authorized at change in land use, or to clarify that it was always and municipal lot and sold to one of the executives of Isla 33, at a public City Council meeting.

There were no major incidents on the island or in the Continental Zone during the Easter holiday season, when it is estimated that at least 400,000 tourists visited. About 20,000 passengers were transported daily during Easter week, with less crowding at the Maritime Terminal since the dismantling of the luxury store provided an additional 100 square meters.
