Isla Mujeres: Among the most visited destinations in Mexico
Working to improve the economy of islanders, the municipal government of Isla Mujeres, headed by Juan Carrillo Soberanis, says that the island is a tourist power in Mexico, both for visitors and for entrepreneurs and investors who wish to participate in its constant development.
Each year, Isla Mujeres receives 2.4 million tourists (mostly) from the United States, Canada and Mexico, representing a strong economic benefit for island families and for the country, positioning itself as one of the favorite beach destinations for travelers and an opportunity for national and foreign investors.
During the participation of this Pueblo Mágico caribeño / Caribbean Magical Town in the Tourism Tianguis Convention of Mexico, "Acapulco 2017" the authorities that make up the current municipal administration, led by Juan Carrillo Soberanis, worked to promote more and better opportunities for tourism growth, presenting the attractions of this municipality, which will be a great benefit for the families that inhabit it, said the Mayor.
The municipal president also explained said that the work is not only promotional, because in order for visitors to get a good image of Isla Mujeres the work of the various departments is necessary, who ensure that there is security, cleanliness and care of the tourist areas and beaches, including the Departments of Public Safety and Traffic, of Public Services Department and the Federal Land Maritime Zone (Zofemat), who continually have cleaning brigades throughout the municipality.
With the development of our new hotel zone (on the mainland), where five hotels are already being built in the first part of this year , where the governmental officials have invested in an intense campaign of tourism promotion and the search of interested capital in our white sand beaches and turquoise sea; this Easter the number of tourists arriving and hotel occupancy are expected to increase by ten percent in Isla Mujeres.
Finally, Juan Carrillo Soberanis stated that the City Council will continue to work on the care and promotion of the island, ensuring that tourists have an excellent image of the destination, a clean and safe Isla Mujeres, and that islanders obtain greater economic benefits through the generation of increased and improved jobs.
The City of Isla Mujeres, in coordination with the municipal Youth Institute, invite you to participate in the Rapid Soccer Youth Tournament.

One year since the disappearance of the Anastacia and her five crew members.
http://www.tvislamujeres.com.mx/se-cumple-un-ano-de-la-des…/
On Thursday, March 30th was the one year anniversary of the disappearance of the boat "Anastacia" and the five youg fishermen aboard, who left behind wives and children. On board the boat were Marco Antonio Barbales Pastrana, Russel Enrique Peche Cemé, Alfonso Jiménez Torres, Humberto Constantino Ordaz and the captain Jorge Fernando de la O Ávalos. They headed south from Isla Mujeres to go shark fishing, but were not heard from, and the search began on March 31st.
The search continued for several months covering the entire coastal area of Quintana Roo, from Holbox to the Sian Kaan area, and the Chetumal borders. Large areas were searched by air including the Gulf of Mexico and the United States, with no result.
Two Masses are (were) planned for Thursday, with the first at the Caridad del Cobre church at 6pm, and a second Mass for the wives of the fishermen at 8pm at the Sacred Heart of Jesus church.
Placement of buoys on North Beach continues
http://www.tvislamujeres.com.mx/continua-la-colocacion-de-…/
Ulises Berman Graniel, Director of Civil Protection of Isla Mujeres confirmed that thus far they have already placed 1,200 linear meters of buoys along North Beach, to provide security for the swimmers. He said they have about 100 meters more, and then they will have covered the entire North Beach area, which was a concern among domestic and foreign tourists.
Sr Berman commented that after a complaint was made via this means of communication, they went out and installed the buoys along the beaches, in order to mark off the area of the swimmers from the area where the boats visit daily.
It is important to note that Playa Norte is a site forced by hundreds of tourists who visit Isla Mujeres every year, mainly enchanted by the beauty and tranquil waters. He explained that due to the concern of the swimmers, the buoy line that started from the Chichis area was installed, but to now this line has been extended until it nearly goes to the Hotel Mía. Only one section remains, which should be taken care of by the weekend. The Mayor is committed to addressing this problem before the Easter holiday period begins, on April 7th.

Protecting North Beach
Compromiso para proteger Playa Norte .. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Enrique Lima Zuno said that it is the responsibility of the concessionaires of North Beach to install and maintain the wooden breakwaters and sandbags, which have been used for over 50 years to prevent erosion of the beach.
He said the dangerous period of deterioration occurs between November 8 and 29th of each year because during that time the tide in the North Atlantic rises about 90 centimeters, and you can see water entering the Buho's restaurant. This combines with the strong winds of the Nortes, which causes the sand to disappear, if they did not have nine of these structures, of which five are functional today.
He reported in a letter to the government that the annual investment is about 400,000 pesos for the Federal Zone area between Guerrero street and the hotel Na Balam, at the eastern part of Playa Norte, hence the success in conservation of this stretch. In an interview with PE, he presented a folder of historical information about beach conservation since 1960, when plans were implemented to stop hurricane damage. This is a technology that was tested in northern Europe. Despite the insistence from some individuals and officials have in technological changes using the geotubes, aka 'whales', he has faith in what he as seen work. He has also observed that small dunes can be created when they sow lilies in the sand, and has seen areas up to 1.2 meters high.
He recalled that the beach erosion had reached the buildings used for tourism by the Briceno Leon family and at Tarzan's,and now there is extensive sand in that area, because there are also whales nearby.
PE has published articles concerning the western part of Playa Norte where the erosion has not been addressed, because seven geotubes have deflated, although already a wooden breakwater is beginning to rebuild the area, where 10,000 square meters of sand have been lost in the past five years.

It has been three months since the CFE (Federal Electrical Commission) began replacing the underground line that connects with the underwater line, and no date has been given for completion. There are still cables that are open to the air and part of Lopez Mateos Street is still unusable.
It is recalled that in mid January there was a prolonged black out of 15 hours due to a failure in this section. The CFE located the breakdown and opened the trench to replace the cables along a 600 meter stretch, with completion expected in mid February. The ongoing work is causing annoyance among pedestrians, drivers, and business owners.
