Small hotels expect 75% occupancy

As the summer holidays are about to start, it is expected that occupancy will rise to 75 percent at the small hotels and up to 90 percent at the larger downtown hotels, based on reservations.  Last year the top hotels were not full, although there were many visitors, because many of them visit for the day, rather than overnight. This causes a great deal of boat and ferry traffic transporting them, which is expected to occur again this summer. The ferry companies reports they are prepared to provide this service between the Cancun Hotel Zone, Puerto Juarez, and Punta Sam.

Entrepreneurs want the Port Authority to paint the downtown lighthouse
Apiqroo debe pintar el faro del malecón . [+] Ver masPhoto & full article at this linkBy Ovidio Lopez
Business owners in Isla Mujeres have requested that the lighthouse on Rueda Medina be painted by the Port Authority (APIQRoo), said the Chairmen of the Pueblo Magico Committee, Gerardo Magana. He commented that there is a need to respond to this request; to meet the requirements for keeping the designation of "Pueblo Magico". APIQRoo is responsible for maintaining the entire system of maritime signals on and around the island, but this building has not had maintenance in recent times.
For the upcoming three year plan and six year plans for the town's renovation, business owners want the curbs and sidewalks of the town to receive maintenance and for the underground network to be completed (removing the overhead wires).  This was initially proposed in 2007, but the transformation seems to be taking more than a decade, with participation by the three levels of government and private industry.
Regarding the investment of more than 20 million pesos for maintenance to the Convention Center, to the wooden houses, and to renovate the signs identifying the attractions around the island, no date has been announced for the arrival of these resources.

The Ministry of Communication and Transport (SCT) have confirmed that this lighthouse at Isla Contoy has received maintenance and is in good condition. The lighthouse at Cabo Catoche is in excellent condition and also received maintenance recently. The marker buoys within and near the Bahia Isla Mujeres-Cancun are able to provide visual information day and night for large ships, while hundreds of small and medium sized vessels will be moving thousands of tourists daily during this holiday period.
There are recommendations to captains of foreign freighters to avoid the area where the whale sharks are eating, which is needed because of the large number who have been injured by contact with the hulls of large ships. This is especially important during the months of July and August when there are large congregations of the whale sharks. It is noted that this proposal to the SEMARNAT (Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources) has not been acted upon, and it is hoped that next year the SCT with conduct the international procedures for notification of the installation of these signals to protect the whale sharks.

The Isla Mujeres Scholarship Program is excited to announce a new matching event to add sponsors and funding for our scholarship students for the 2016/2017 school year!!! I like to call it July Matchapalooza. :-) because, let’s be honest, everything is more fun when you add 'palooza' to it or when your donation gets doubled.
Our very generous anonymous donor has agreed to another round of matched funds for any new sponsors or donations. That’s right – your donations will be doubled!
*Any new sponsors who join/pledge in the month of July
*Any one time donations
Need more information or have questions? Check out our website or Margaret Washa. We would LOVE to tell you about the wonderful students who are supported by our program because we are terribly proud of them. This is an ideal time to join the program and make the most out of your contribution or to make a one time contribution (we understand if you have commitment issues)
Our facebook page is Isla Mujeres Scholarship Group, please join us there for photos and personal stories from our group. And check out our wonderful new website (thanks, Jackie Conlon!)

Starting in July, the Artist's Fairs are being scheduled twice a month, on the First and Third Thursdays, at the Casa de Cultura, 4-9.
