Complaints by environmentalists
La Profepa no se da abasto .. [+] Ver masPhoto & full article at this link
It is alleged that the staff of PROFEPA is at fault for the failure of the new area of 633,398 kilometers in perimeter to not be included in the Whale Shark Management Plan, according to environmentalists who are compiling a complaint on the internet. They are collecting photos and videos to support their complaint and to show there here are permit holders who violate some of the regulations by blocking whale sharks or other actions. The case of the boat 'Halios Geron" was included in review on Trip Advisor, with video and photos, who allowed all their clients to go into the water, causing concerns. Earlier in the season it was reported that more than 50 boats were bothering a few whale sharks, and video was sent to SEMARNAT (Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources.)
Some of the regulations are given, which prohibit: the use of nonbiodegradable sunscreen, uing propulsion engines or row boats or dingies or lifeboats; harassing, touching, riding, or damaging the whale sharks; obstructing their paths, using flash or artificial light in the water; using megaphones, tape recorders or other devices that could disturb the animals or tourists; disposing of any waste; collecting, capturing, fishing, transporting of any wildlife species or parts; introduction or release of any species; taking pets on the boat; feeding any marine species; and the use of any sonar equipment or echo sounders.
Permit holders should follow the regulations, monitor the visitors, meet all the conditions, inform the tourists about the whale shark biology, and assist the authorities in any cases of emergency or environmental or weather events.

The Isla Mujeres Scholarship Program is excited to announce a new matching event to add sponsors and funding for our scholarship students for the 2016/2017 school year!!! I like to call it July Matchapalooza. :-) because, let’s be honest, everything is more fun when you add 'palooza' to it or when your donation gets doubled.
Our very generous anonymous donor has agreed to another round of matched funds for any new sponsors or donations. That’s right – your donations will be doubled!
*Any new sponsors who join/pledge in the month of July
*Any one time donations
Need more information or have questions? Check out our website or Margaret Washa. We would LOVE to tell you about the wonderful students who are supported by our program because we are terribly proud of them. This is an ideal time to join the program and make the most out of your contribution or to make a one time contribution (we understand if you have commitment issues)
Our facebook page is Isla Mujeres Scholarship Group, please join us there for photos and personal stories from our group. And check out our wonderful new website (thanks, Jackie Conlon!)

Starting in July, the Artist's Fairs are being scheduled twice a month, on the First and Third Thursdays, at the Casa de Cultura, 4-9.
