Conflicts between foreign and local business owners

Entre comerciantes extranjeros y locales, por hostigamiento a turistas

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 20 de febrero.-
There have been comments in social media about conflicts between local and foreign business owners downtown, and authorities have indicated they intend to take action on the matter to try and eradicate any irregularities. There are also complaints about foreigners who are vending illegally and clandestinely at the tables of established restaurants.
The Mayor, Agapito Magana Sanchez, has promised to contact the authorities of the INM (National Institute of Migration) to take the appropriate legal actions to avoid the presence of people who are not complying with the laws, either commercially or privately.
There are complaints about an Italian business owner who enters other businesses and attempts to attract customers to his location, and whose staff sometimes works shirtless. The other situation involves a foreigner who has a business selling hamburgers, and confrontations over barking dogs inside a home. In both cases, complaints have been filed with the Public Ministry (state prosecutor).

Ministry of Health activates boat ambulance

Por parte de la Secretaría de Salud

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 20 de febrero.-
On Saturday,  activation of the boat ambulance was announced, and the Secretary of Health, Juan Manuel Pacheco Ortegon said it has been operational since Friday. He said it is ready to handle any emergency that warrants transfer, and is now under the responsibilities of the Community Hospital of Isla Mujeres and the Port Authority of Quintana Roo.
It came from Cozumel on Thursday, and is moored at the API dock, and will depart from there when transporting emergency patients during the night or early morning. It is 32 feet long and equipped with two outboard motors of 250 hp each. The first sea ambulance has an inboard engine which presented problems for its operation, and that boat was never in service.

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 20 de febrero.-
After participating in the tour of Pope Francis in Mexico, the Archbishop of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas has arrived in Isla Mujeres for a few days of rest and relaxation. He is staying with his sister, whose birthday was Saturday. He plans to officiate at some Masses and to visit the beach on Sunday.
He spoke about the messages brought by the Pope to the Mexican people, advising them not to live life just as observers, when we know there are many difficulties, but to work hard to transform our society.

Functioning boat ambulance
Ambulancia marítima funcional [+] Ver mas
The state Secretary of Health, Juan Manuel Prtegon Pacheco, oversaw the inauguration of the sea ambulance at the Port Authority pier (APIQRoo). The Director of the Community Hospital, Pedro Zapata, said it will be available for transports between midnight and 5am, when there is no ferry service. It is adapted with two outboard motors of 250 Hp each, enabling it to make the crossing to Puerto Juarez in 10 minutes. The previous sea ambulance, which arrived three years ago and was never operational, was put into dry dock. It has an inboard engine which allegedly had mechanical problems.
This vessel was originally in operation in Cozumel, and is 32 feet long. It is not appropriate for performing rescues at sea, but it can efficiently cross the bay to Puerto Juarez, Punta Sam, or the Cancun Hotel Zone.
Residents have complained that the hospital has a limited staff of around the clock specialists, which include a gynecologist, pediatrician, and surgeon, and some consider the modern facility to just be a "shell" because the government has not invested in personnel to staff it.
